I like Gosling's statement, gives the impression of graciousness & self-awareness. I hope he pays his publicist well, they're doing great work.

What Margot achieved as an actress is truly unbelievable

Come on, it's over the top and cringey. What did she achieve as an actress that was unbelievable?

Publicity is not about facts. It's about perception and crafting a narrative that benefits the person weaving it. Since your chief concern here is about how you think a completely different person doesn't deserve an award she wasn't nominated for anyway, instead of about his own nomination or anything about himself, I'd say his publicist is doing a great job shifting focus, at least with you.

Gerwig probably wasn't even sixth

the directors branch were never gonna go for that movie, these people have no idea how award season works

a part of me finds it hysterical that justine triet was the lone female director to make it in over greta, considering how greta gerwig's ww fandom likes to act as though female directors begin and end with her... but, like, would it kill the oscars to recognize more than one female director at a time??? (i would have cackled if it had been justine triet AND celine song hehehe)

basically this. the number of times I saw people say outright there is only one "slot" for a woman... that's fucked up.

This! “A woman was already nominated, what is your problem”

Bitch, it’s because only 9 have been ever nominated period.

Reminds me of that Ruth Bader Ginsburg quote about the Supreme Court.

“And when I'm sometimes asked when will there be enough [women on the Supreme Court]? And I say when there are nine, people are shocked. But there'd been nine men, and nobody's ever raised a question about that."

Giving a female director one spot is not the win some people think it is.
