Publicity is not about facts. It's about perception and crafting a narrative that benefits the person weaving it. Since your chief concern here is about how you think a completely different person doesn't deserve an award she wasn't nominated for anyway, instead of about his own nomination or anything about himself, I'd say his publicist is doing a great job shifting focus, at least with you.
