Ryan Gosling and America Ferrera have shared their disappointment of Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie not getting Academy Award nominations for Barbie.

America: “I was incredibly disappointed that they weren’t nominated… Greta has done just about everything that a director could do to deserve it. Creating this world, and taking something that didn’t have inherent value to most people and making it a global phenomenon. It feels disappointing to not see her on that list… What Margot achieved as an actress is truly unbelievable. One of the things about Margot as an actress is how easy she makes everything look. And perhaps people got fooled into thinking that the work seems easy, but Margot is a magician as an actress in front of the screen, and it was one of the honors of my career to get to witness her pull off the amazing performance she did. She brings so much heart and humor and depth and joy and fun to the character. In my book, she’s a master.”

A lot of people took to Twitter to also share their disappointment:

the fact that the supporting characters got oscar nods but the woman who played barbie herself got nothing is not sitting right with me… https://t.co/W2cubGMKdU

Ryan Gosling, while deserving, got an Oscar nomination for Barbie while Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie didn’t? Completely proving the point of the movie in 20 fucking 24 you cannot make this up #Oscars2024 #Oscars pic.twitter.com/EvnPJcP8Xn

and yet she was only nominated for best director for one of them.

but then again, only one woman has ever been nominated for best director twice in oscar history, so. https://t.co/WmCG3tCxBZ
