I feel like she’s gonna do that fake sincerity cate blanchett did last year where they act like they don’t want to win when they are winning but look a bit sad when they actually lose lol.

I say as someone who likes Emma btw.

it was so funny that a lot of ppl took cate's campaign at face value; i saw (and still see) so many ppl saying how cate didn't even want to win. i even saw oscar pundits say the same thing, and i'd expect them to know better. it was so obviously a standard self-effacing strategy; girl just didn't want to seem greedy about wanting that third oscar.

i mean, i guess the campaign worked a bit too well because so many people bought it lol.

Her face when Michelle was named at the Oscars was someone who looked a bit bummed to win. Compared to when Marion Cotillard won her oscar and Cate was estatic for her.

Cate did want to win for Tár and it was a good performance out of her (probably her best in a while).

I can’t believe yorgos is writing the script for my year of rest and relaxation and Emma is most likely involved 😞

Yorgos and Emma please refund me

Lily vs Emma this year is kinda like Cate vs Michelle last year.

Emma has been the frontrunner since Venice and hasn’t lost any major award yet(?). Baftas are racist so I think she’ll win there, SAG is gonna be a big decider.

IA and it kinda sucks because I think Michelle was helped by the fact that a) she was in EEAAO, which was steamrolling over everything that year (Brendan Fraser should thank god that there was no lead actor role in EEAAO); b) she's Michelle Yeoh (i.e. legend who a lot of people thought had never really gotten her fair dues in Hollywood); and c) Cate already had two so there were probably a number of voters who thought that she had enough.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Lily, still!

Also Jamie Lee Curtis's influence and cheerleadering the movie and Michelle helped A LOT! The SAG speech she gave not only won locked that oscar but she also stannnnned Michelle in it which I honestly think gave her the edge over Cate cause everyone really enjoyed it. Part of me wonder if a well-connected white woman like Jamie had not been in that movie, how far would've it have gotten because Ke was really the only one in the cast that on performance alone carried him to the Oscars.

Leo is supporting Lily but he's not the loud cheerleader that Jamie was. Lily needs BIG support because Emma has been strong on reviews alone for MONTHS. Part of me feels like Lily could get that Oscar but if Emma wins at SAGs, it's not looking good.

she was better in the favourite than poor things but tbh i think she's kind of the same character in everything?? like she's charismatic and fun to watch but i never once forget it's Emma Stone. i do wanna watch the curse though

I preferred The Favourite as a movie and role better to Poor Things.

ia i didn't dislike poor things exactly but overall i was unmoved. it was very beautifully designed but felt very commercial and safe?

I think its her best performance to date but the more I thought about it I didn't care for the movie itself. I discussed with another user but we both surprised at how Hollywood-ish the ending was given the director. For the ideas presented I was expecting some subversion but it went the generic path of woman vs oppressive society and some of it didn't totally make sense.
