tbh they had to use Back to Black in this trailer to get people like me, who...only know that song and Rehab, interested. What other songs of Amy's should I listen to?

I agree. I can't put a finger on why but while this looks beautifully made, it still feels kind of exploitative? I don't know it gives me the ick.

I feel like her legacy is going to go the Marilyn Monroe way where people just won’t let her memory rest

If you guys haven't already, I highly recommend listening to the recent "You're Wrong About" episode on Amy. They did a much better job discussing her legacy than this movie probably will

I usually love that podcast but I came away from that one feeling like they knew less about her than things I've only vaguely learned retained from being on this website for too long. The cohost and empathy were great as always but it was a little lighter on info than that pod usually is

I got annoyed with the cohost and took a break listening to it. I think maybe it’s their age? They were making these broad statements about her teen years and I just had a weird old lady elder millennial moment of, “oh this person doesnt remember or wasn’t old enough to fully understand what culturr in the early 2000s was like”

Idk I’ll probably finish it on a day when I’m in a better mood

I'm so mad lmao

That's not even Amy singing?? Casting is dumb too. Amy dealt with so many self-esteem issues, one of them revolving around how she wasn't considered conventionally attractive, yet this actress is very pretty from a Euro-centric perspective. IDK. It bothers me. The documentary is enough. I know they want to keep her legacy alive, very much like Selena's family wants to keep her legacy alive, but...the talent keeps them alive enough. It feels cash grabby.

Yeah, they showed Frank-era Amy and she was thicker in a way this actress couldn’t be. At least the actress is Jewish.

I agree BB - I am happy her legacy is enduring but... so many things that her estate put out are just so not what she would have ever co-signed. I blame Mitch.

The actress is gorgeous indeed & I thought she looked a lot like Amy (someone I also found gorgeous). Based on the trailer alone and that very last shot, she sells that magnetic vibe Amy had.

But yeah, this seems very cash grabby.
