i know they can each be sooo cringe but i really do love both bride wars and something borrowed. they’re so deliciously corny and fun and emblematic of the 00s but so unrealistic and not diverse and, not that they all included them, but the ~fat~ jokes of the time are gross.

other cringe 00s movies i like: he’s just not that into you, 27 dresses, the proposal, the wedding date, wimbledon, the family stone, the wedding planner, two weeks notice

the only POC of color i can think of with a somewhat meaningful role in any of the movies i listed is the deaf brother’s husband from the family stone but i’m sure i missed someone.

I hate The Proposal.
Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock are oil and water in terms of chemistry.

that’s why it’s on my cringe list!! it’s pretty bad… the times i’ve rewatched it, i ff through that weird “get low” dance scene. it makes me shudder thinking about it.

tbh the depiction of “Chonger” in What Happens In Vegas is sth I think about a lot bc it’s so mindblowing tone-deaf and racist and unsympathetic. If a writer can’t write a POC well, don’t bother!

We simply don't have a large swath of versatile actors in Hollywood who can reliably do both action and romance.

95 percent of romance (both in life and on screen) is corny. Someone with charisma can transcend that barrier. Action on the other hand just requires an actor to get buff, appear stoic, and maybe deliver a one-liner.

Why are we wanting action stars in romcoms? That isn’t really what romcoms are built on.

Will Smith is the only actor I can think of who did both but no one would consider him an action star. He’s like Tom Cruise and was never pigeonholed.

We don't need both but the only reliable, money making genre right now is action. That's just where the industry is trending. So anyone with a name is less likely to pick a rom-com and more likely to trend action. If any of Kate's popular rom-coms were made today, the leading man would be someone who'd previously been an action/comic book lead.

Too many male actors want to be action stars or be known as a “serious” actor (🤢) when in reality they’ve have a more steady career doing rom-coms.

I actually love Bride Wars as a com. Not necessarily rom com but soulmate com. Because the two women are absolutely the driving story of love.

It's hard to pick between Fools Gold and How to Lose A Guy. Both have similar vibes but not quite. I miss Kate Hudson rom cons, honestly. She plays into the comedy well. You can tell she studied Goldie's comedy. Not copied. Just used it to understand offbeat versus too much.

I agree on everything.
I find Kate Hudson very charming on screen.

There's this great smile/grin she does when the character is happy that really elevates a scene. Like she makes everything relatable on some level for the upbeat movies.

She is so charismatic. Sometimes I will just watch the first bits of Almost Famous because she is so damn good in it.

I think all actors should have at least one rom com under their belt.
