Ok, but How Do I Deal is definitely one of my top 5 "guilty" pleasure songs of all time. It's still in rotation at least once a week and every time it comes on I have to pause to mime the chorus like the angsty teenage girl I'll always be in my soul.

She was on Kids Incorporated, too. I used to like that show a lot but it was on Disney so I only got to watch when Disney was having a free weekend or when my mom and stepdad occasionally subscribed. I think she just went by Love on the show. Also on the show was Martika, Renee… Sandstrom, I think?… who was in a group with Stacy Ferguson (aka Fergie) before the latter joined BEP.

Yeah it's the perspective of being a real adult. I had a kid young so I thought I was a real adult, but I really wasn't. I definitely wasn't ready. Now my kid is a teenager and I would hate for her to get the same treatment I got as a 20 yr old. I think gen z is way more aware of stuff like this than millennials so that's something.

Well taken, but “I was 17 years old on the cover of Maxim, and I had no idea why."

Girl please.

same. there's a natural level of naivete, and there's b.s. you didn't grow up under a rock Jennifer.

Heartbreakers worked bc of her and Jason Lee. Jennifer Aniston (who was the one they originally wanted) just couldnt pull off the same level of sexy pretend innocence.

I don't get the casting of Sigourney Weaver at all...oh well.

"It's dangerous to say to women, ‘You can't look like you're not 22 to me anymore.' OK, well that's your problem. Because I'm 44, and this is what I look like.""

It's bad enough that teen celebrities are sexualized but I hate that it's so normal for people to expect these celebs to look the same 20-50 years later. You can't look like you're 22 forever and honestly, you shouldn't. I hate that the beauty standard is to look like a 20 year old girl forever. People talk about how amazing Helen Mirren looks now (and she does) but she doesn't look like the 20 year old version of herself and THAT'S GREAT. Why can't we have that same attitude for other women who are over the age of 25?

Yeah, social media clickbait posting edited photoshoot photos of 20 year olds next to candids of the same people at 40 with comments like "what happened to [celeb]?" - the same thing that happens to all of us, even those who live and breathe sunscreen and get botox. Everybody ages.

I’m very happy to have survived the 90s and early aughts without self esteem issues because I feel like the deck was really stacked against us.

People glorify the 90s but it was a rough era to come of age in for girls
