Busy weekend ahead of me: The Zone of Interest tonight, Poor Things and American Fiction double feach on Saturday, probably Wonka on Sunday. Def wanna check out The Taste of Things soon, and I have a ticket for The Iron Claw for next Thursday in case my dinner plans get canceled. 😆 Always prepared!! And yet I'll have lots of catch-up to do when I get back from visiting family in PA for Xmas, but that's always a nice way to decompress from the holiday.

(lmfao I delayed this comment so I wouldn't be first again but OOP)

It's so cool that essentially an indie movie (!) was #1 last week. At this point Miyazaki does have that brand recognition. Can't wait for American Fiction at some point.

Saw American Fiction at AFI Fest and really enjoyed it! Jeffrey Wright is always so good, and the writer and director, Cord Jefferson, seems like a really smart and thoughtful guy. I hope it makes some money - it plays well to a crowd.

Also saw The Taste of Things at AFI Fest and loved that. I was shook to find out they were IRL exes, especially when it doesn't seem like things ended particularly well. It's such a beautiful film, and Valentine's Day is honestly perfect for a wide release.

I've seen a lot of films over the past week, most of them old, but we did see Poor Things on Tuesday, and I am still thinking about it. Emma Stone absolutely killed.

Going to see Wonka tonight! We leave for the East Coast in a week, and I hope to see The Boy and the Heron and The Zone of Interest before we go, but all of the other upcoming stuff will probably have to wait til we get back.

i’m seeing american fiction tomorrow and sooooo hyped! also going to a screening of the insider bc a friend of mine is a huge michael mann stan and tbh i’ve seen 3 of his movies now and had a great time with each

also i finally saw the ballad of songbirds and snakes last week and i think that while they never would have done it for a million reasons, including that everyone including francis lawrence agrees that splitting mockingjay into two movies was a mistake, that might be the first book adaptation in history that *should* have been two movies. the cast & production design stuff was great but in hacking over 500 not particularly action-heavy pages down to make a kind of action movie, they lost all the stuff that made the book feel actually interesting and worthwhile as its own thing and not just an easy panem cash grab a la a certain other franchise i won’t name here.

I genuinely think Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes might have served better as a 3-4 episode miniseries tbh. It might have felt overly long if that actually happened but there was so much stuff that could have and should have been included that I feel like it would have been worth it.

that’s also a good idea! idk i was really surprised by how much i liked the book and although it was long you can see that everything is in there for a reason that either moves the plot forward or contributed meaningfully to the worldbuilding/social commentary/character development… the movie had to cut everything but the plot stuff (and even then it smushed it together so much it introduced plotholes thar weren’t in the book, like where the fuck lucy got a guitar from if snow was in the hospital the whole time lol)

If they had, I wouldn't have seen the part 2 bc it would focus on the 12 stuff, which I found boring in the book and just as boring in the movie. So yeah, would hae been okay with it.
