yeah i went through a phase where i was watching a lot of video essays and then realized that half of them are just "i googled this term and this is what i found" without saying that out loud
I was watching one and I went to see her sources in the description box(she had none). Went on wiki as she was talking and she was basically reading the whole damn page, just switching words around.
I can't believe I watched all 4 hours of this in one sitting, but my goodness I was hooked. I had never even heard of most of these YouTubers, but I'm glad to see them get their comeuppance, especially that James Somerton dude. What a fraud.
I wrote in fanfiction once and one of my followers told me my story had been plagiarised and posted in two other blogs. It pissed me off so much because the blogs had way more followers and comments than my original was getting. I never uploaded a story again.
I kept seeing this on my YouTube homepage and people on Twitter talking about it and damn, it was straight up theft for these content creators.
I’ve seen James Somerton videos recommended to me but never watched them, but to steal from people within your own community, who get little opportunities, while making content acting like you are fighting for them to get their voices heard must be a punch in the gut - especially for LGBTQ+ POC. I saw some of the people he plagiarised on Twitter saying they either weren’t paid or only paid a couple of hundred for the original content while he stole it and made thousands.
Not surprised by iilluminaughtii, going down the rabbit hole of what she done and that it wasn’t just her falsely accusing a lawyer of copying her content was something. And I haven’t liked Internet Historian for a while - his treatment of dashcon attendees compared to his sympathy of the Kony2012 guy never sat right with me - but I honestly never would expected him to plagiarise an entire video.
it absolutely is a dogwhistle based off degenerate art but there's so many of these right-wing scumbags thinking they're clever. IH had a born on 4/20 comment as "joke"...which oh lol weed joke except its actually a literal Nazi reference and we know that because he also put in 1988 as his birthday (he was born in the 90s)
