Paul Rudd on His “Very Restrictive” Diet When Preparing to Play Ant-Man

Nov 25, 2023 17:01

Paul Rudd says he had a “horrible” and “restrictive” diet for playing Ant-Man.

“My reward was sparkling water. That’s how horrible that diet was. I was like, ‘Alright, I can have some sparkling water now, I’ve earned it.’”

This is the part they don't tell you - you can control what you eat and how you move, but at the end of the day your body is going to decide what goes where and it is not going to consult you or your carefully planned gym regime about it lol.

It’s true. I noticed this especially after having a kid - at one point, I was intermittent fasting, a protein shake (those <200 calorie ones) for lunch, and dinners were usually a rice bowl with veggies and some protein. I gained weight.

You know what fucking helped? Fifth Disease for a week.

Did you experience joint swelling/arthritis symptoms when you got sick with that?

Not so much swelling, but I did notice a pain in my one of my hands’ wrist/thumb area. Sort of similar to the pain of my pregnancy carpal tunnel.

It was basically a bad flu with a headache that wouldn’t go away, in my experience.

the one time in my adult life where I was legitimately clinically underweight, I still had several places on my body with what I can only describe as bulging fat. like I was a size 2 but couldn't actually wear a size 2 in jeans because it couldn't contain the fat on the backs of my hips and my stomach would be spilling over the front. like... why

if I were an actor restricting myself for the sake of a role or what have you I legitimately don't know how little I'd have to weight to "look thin". I have to imagine it's like, getting sent to the hospital territory. no thanks

My unrequested advice is, Cut down sugars completely, to zero, I've been skinny my whole life but I used to eat so much sugar and carbs that I eventually started to get a belly, yet I was skinny everywhere else, I was like hell no.
So I cut sugars and most carbs out of my diet and I already lost the big belly and lost about 15 pounds in 3 months, and I eat everything else, no other changes to my diet.

Im keto-esque, low carb and sugar but i haven't been able to cut it to zero. Its hard! Especially because i love fruit which can unfortunately be high carb/sugar. But carbs definitely bloat my lower belly so badly it comical. Its so unproportional to the rest of my body lol

That depends on the body though.
I tried that when I became serious about losing weight. It worked at the start but then I couldn't lose anymore and I was absolutely miserable.

I kept exercising but I started eating potatoes, rice and bread again in moderation and to my surprise I started losing weight again. The only thing I removed 100% from my diet was sodas and sugary drinks.

What worked for me was focusing on a healthy diet. I stopped analyzing calories, proteins, carbs, fats, etc. I tried to eat less processed food and more home cooked meals. And more plant based, more fermented foods, etc. I lost a little more than 50 pounds and kept it off so far, and I still eat carbs.

One of the hardest things about losing weight is to accept that what works for others doesn't necessarily work for you.

That's the right way to do it ! 👏👏

For me, it's dairy. Once I cut it out I end up losing weight and toning up. I love chocolate too much though!!!

Yh this is more sustainable I feel any diet that requires you to cut whole food groups out just sets you up to fail

Yeah, I know some people can achieve that but it was hell for me. I tried for several weeks and I felt absolutely miserable.

Especially because of bread. I love it, not only the flavor but it's part of the culture in my country. It's everywhere, in every corner you feel the smell of fresh bread, in every home, breakfast, tea, etc. It's impossible to avoid and giving it up felt like a punishment.

So I still eat it, and pizza and pastas. But I make it or buy it fresh.

100% I have a friend who will do this weird ass diets, cut everything down to 500 calories for a week or two, lose 10lbs then goes back to normal food and puts it all back on, or cuts out all carb/sugar heavy drinks like beer/wine/soda loses some weight, then goes 'well i am not giving up beer forever just to lose weight' and bam right back on and usually more. Good carbs are so necessary for life and cutting all sugar (including fruit) is so bad for your body. I get limits, I get cutting the processed and bad things. Or limiting them. But when people say 'cut fruit aka ALL SUGAR' I sincerely worry about them and how their body will continue to process necessary things

Yh and that’s the thing I remember when the fasting diet was the hot thing but it’s just not really sustainable it might give great results but if you can’t like live your life doing it then what’s the point.
