there's still gorgeous 2d animation happening! studios like cartoon saloon are working very hard. france still values the medium etc. it's true that the big studios are generally making stuff in a knock-off pixar style, so i do get what you're saying and agree to an extent, but there's still so much life in the medium, if you know where to look. go have a look at short films, f.ex.! there's lots of treasures around.
