ONTD... does your workplace care about your mental health?Nope. I've been having a rough time because my boss won't accept we need higher starting wages (I'm a store manager and we start at MINIMUM wage.) He expects me to have fully trained and dedicated staff. HA ( ... )

I 100% made this post so people could vent about their shitty work places. You're good. I hope things improve for you.

FUCK, I am so mad for you. If you are in US, you may consider getting an attorney at some point. You may be protected by FMLA laws.

As no one's mom except here, PLEASE TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF FIRST. Please. Please do not fuck herniated disks - you will regret it the entire rest of your life. Also, start applying at the other places that pay more to their staff, it may be good for your salary and life too.

Also, if you want to talk private about my experience with herniated disks, work, etc. please feel free to DM here on discord. There is a great Venting forum there that is very loving

Hardass opinion, but I do not think anyone can expect that our employers care for us and it makes my heart hurt. The people responsible to pay you DNGAF. Everyone needs to stop giving employers their emotional space.

And sadly, people are going to come at her with "Well, some people do not even make enough to get insurance from SAG so..."

My workplace gives us a free subscription to headspace.com - a $70 annual value! That's .035 USD per hour toward my mental health every working hour, so they get to add that to my overall benefit package whether it gets used or not. So fucking SLEAZY and I have never got it to work using their link so fuck it. Insight Timer is free.

OP, here is the whole video, maybe link to it?

once you adopt the attitude of your company, no matter how much you resonate with its values or whatever, sees you as disposable -- you are in a much better mental space to deal with it accordingly imo

i went through a really hard work-thing where i invested so much time/energy/care into my co-workers for them to totally throw me under the bus on a dime, which sucked. now i just don't expect my work to be "family" and i'm much better off for it. find support systems that are not work, that place is not your friend! it is a paycheck!

I agree so hard and I actually did. I started therapy in 2019 because I realized my reaction and feelings from work were so off. It helped me later when I submitted a resignation and was able to ask for an offer 20% higher than what I was currently making if they wanted me to stay. I would never have been able to do that, or hell, even resign!

as someone who tied a lot of their personal value and worth into their productivity or 'being a contributor' losing a career-path job in my 20s was shit and hard but it was the best thing that happened to me because i had to really evaluate and recognize that i have inherent worth not tied to work/labour and that work sees you as a number. now i am always trying to remind my friends and coworkers that the job is just a job and the skills you have go with you so if a place doesn't want you anymore don't break yourself to 'make it work'.

I think the lawyers would prevent inquiring emails as they might be read as pressuring her to return to work, and I agree with them.

I don't know why you would expect your employers to be humane- corporations aren't humane. They're not designed to be humane.

You use the workplace protections you have (such as medical leave), and when you return to work, expect to be treated as if nothing happened and no time has passed.

ha, thank you, your post is more hardass than I was afraid mine was. You are right however, some people are led to believe by their employers that they do care and each human learns that in their own way. Especially damaged people who have been traumatized, they will accept love and care when offered until they learn how not to

My parents always told me, "Work is a four-letter word for a reason".

It's not your family, it's not your friend. Never forget to clock out on time, and when your contract doesn't reflect your work, renegotiate or be prepared to leave.

You are the only person who will advocate for you, unless you hire a lawyer!

This is gonna sound harsh but it’s just the reality of the situation: if you are working for a corporation you can have the assurance that the check is gonna cash. You will get paid on the dot as it was stipulated in your contract. Is it fair pay? No. Could it be improved? Yes. Will the situation change in which you will get properly compensated AND taken cared and appreciated? Unfortunately, no. And probably not in our lifetime. I understand her not passing on the opportunity to work with Shonda and Netflix but her agents should’ve told her not expect much from them. Unfortunately for her, saying those things publicly is gonna get her blacklisted.
