Hardass opinion, but I do not think anyone can expect that our employers care for us and it makes my heart hurt. The people responsible to pay you DNGAF. Everyone needs to stop giving employers their emotional space.

And sadly, people are going to come at her with "Well, some people do not even make enough to get insurance from SAG so..."

My workplace gives us a free subscription to headspace.com - a $70 annual value! That's .035 USD per hour toward my mental health every working hour, so they get to add that to my overall benefit package whether it gets used or not. So fucking SLEAZY and I have never got it to work using their link so fuck it. Insight Timer is free.

OP, here is the whole video, maybe link to it?

once you adopt the attitude of your company, no matter how much you resonate with its values or whatever, sees you as disposable -- you are in a much better mental space to deal with it accordingly imo

i went through a really hard work-thing where i invested so much time/energy/care into my co-workers for them to totally throw me under the bus on a dime, which sucked. now i just don't expect my work to be "family" and i'm much better off for it. find support systems that are not work, that place is not your friend! it is a paycheck!

I agree so hard and I actually did. I started therapy in 2019 because I realized my reaction and feelings from work were so off. It helped me later when I submitted a resignation and was able to ask for an offer 20% higher than what I was currently making if they wanted me to stay. I would never have been able to do that, or hell, even resign!

as someone who tied a lot of their personal value and worth into their productivity or 'being a contributor' losing a career-path job in my 20s was shit and hard but it was the best thing that happened to me because i had to really evaluate and recognize that i have inherent worth not tied to work/labour and that work sees you as a number. now i am always trying to remind my friends and coworkers that the job is just a job and the skills you have go with you so if a place doesn't want you anymore don't break yourself to 'make it work'.

When I lost my job in 2020, this was exactly how I coped. I'd pushed through work on days where family members or my pet were in their final days. I'd rush back to work at 9 pm on a Friday if they needed me. I knew everyone's catering orders and family member's names and billing codes and could even tell when they were pregnant before anyone else at work, sometimes even before they told their own parents. When a lot of event planners lost their work in March 2020, I figured out a project that needed 400 man hours and immediately helped everyone pivot so our business could go on. And the thanks I got was being furloughed and then laid off ( ... )

Great comment. The first paragraph especially is what every single employee should keep in mind. Your workplace is not your family. You are expendable. Never feel bad about leaving a job for a better one, cos of the tables were turned, they'd get rid of you. It's business, not personal.

My employer also gives us a "free" Headspace subscription. They introduced it in 2020 because of the pandemic. That same year, they decided not to give us raises because of the "uncertainty of the economy."

So basically: we aren't giving you the increased pay you asked for to improve your mental health/quality of life but this app will help!!

OMG does every workplace just offer to sign up for the telehealth app to wipe their hands clean of liability?!? I talked to the HR director for the hospital I work at and all she could offer me was to sign up for the tele health app and talk to a therapist because we offer up to 8 free sessions! and 1-800 ethics line. WTF I'm even more annoyed by our HR now
