Nearly two months after its TIFF premiere, Netflix's adaptation of "All the Light We Cannot See" finally premieres this week and is, sadly, very bad. ICYMI my review:https://t.co/UVIteooU0L

Dang it. I really wanted this to be good. I remember being intrigued by the trailer.

I know the movie will never live up to the book so I didn't even watch the trailer. Seems like my hunch was correct.

same, I couldn't even imagine how to make it into a good series or movie :/

honestly! it took the author 10 years to write it, I feel like there is no way to live up to it.

In a similar vein, have you read the Nightingale by Kristin Hannah? I read them around the same time and thought hers was excellent too.

Oh I haven't, thanks for the tip! adding it to my tbr :)
I haven't read many newer books on WWII, after reading Eli Wiesel's books I sort of needed a time out :|

I’m sad this is bad because the book is really good😭

Several people said Mark Ruffalo’s accent is bad. I guess he did attempt a French accent.

I really don’t think he was even attempting a French accent. Just something vaguely “western European”

I watched it all last night and it wasn't good. I'm really confused as to why they didn't just cast French actors to play French characters. Instead, they chose two Americans and had them speak in English accents. Mark's was particularly awful. Half the time he wasn't even trying to use an accent. Oof.

That's what I don't get. Cast the right people for the roles. I'm not saying Mark isn't a good actor, but be the right person for the role. If you can't do a proper accent, just don't.

I always lol at Valkyrie, because Tom Cruise was painfully Tom Cruise and everyone else had an English accent despite playing Germans.

They should've pulled an All Quiet and hired the correct nationality.

I will say I like that Netflix has mostly done this for the most part and trained younger audiences to expect it.

With the exception of Inglorious Basterds, I can't remember any Hollywood production doing that. It's so jarring to see foreign stories staring Anglos. Lol

It's weird because if you're not casting stars, there are actually plenty of actors in LA from other countries, or who are first-generation Americans. My bf is Russian, and he can't deal with the awful Russian accents and language in various shows because it's just so bad sometimes. He did say Kate Mulgrew did a good job as Red in OITNB though.

did they really set it in Paris instead of Saint Malo?
It's ridiculous
