This may be a dumb question but as someone that hardly likes alcohol (not even wine) and only a light Mojito here and there, do alcoholics truly LOVE the taste of alcohol eventually like „omg this pure vodka tastes amazing, just like ice tea) or is it more like „ugh I hate drinking it, it’s disgusting in my mouth“ but the body craving it is stronger. I just can’t imagine it tasting good, just like cigarettes (the passive smell it leaves on one’s clothes is already enough for me to not even try) like does a cigarette taste like sweets to chain smokers?? or again a matter of „my body NEEDS it but I actually hate the taste“

I genuinely enjoy the taste of beer and wine. I also love getting fun cocktails when I go out to eat, especially if they are pretty. Cocktails also have lots of sweet elements, so they taste good to me.

If I'm taking shots of vodka, its not because I love the taste; I just want to get tipsy fast.

I personally LOVE the taste of dry wines and omg love tequila, but as I’ve gotten older, I can’t drink even close to as much as I used to without being very ill. But as a casual drinker, yes, I like the taste of alcohol! Wouldn’t bother otherwise.

i am not at all saying this in a snarky way, but that's like asking drug addicts if they eventually like spending all their money and living on the street. as a person who used to deal with alcohol abuse, I didn't even think about how it tasted. if I was at a bar that didn't have what I liked to shoot, I would just drink whatever. being around people who had beer flights to taste things was bizarre to me. why spend all that money to taste booze when you could spend it towards getting as drunk as possible? same with people who spent 20 dollars on a fancy cocktail, I would have rather done 5 shots of horrible tasting bar rail tequila. hope this answers your question lol

but that is what I was asking about and you actually answered it perfectly. So it is more about your body asking for it than the actual taste of it. I guess it starts by liking some sort of alcohol, which leads to enjoying the feeling of being drunk and this leads to one thing of the other (without actually caring what it tastes like at this stage anymore)

I think Matthew Perry did a great job at explaining it when he said that it just made him feel "normal". so yeah like you said, your body just needs it and doesn't really care how you get it. alcohol doesn't taste good, I'm skeptical of anyone who says they think it does. it's literal poison lol.

I used to hate the taste of alcohol, especially beer but when I got older I learned how to make cocktails. I'm not addicted but I guess for me it's fun to drink and get the feeling of a 'buzz' sometimes.

Two months ago I mixed, strawberry melona, sprite, and strawberry soju together and it tastes amazing!

Towards the end of my alcoholism (I've been sober for almost 12 years now) I genuinely loved the taste of alcohol -- ANY alcohol. I could drink straight liquor and be perfectly happy.

For me it was the fact that it stopped my brain from spinning. It made me stop stressing and stop caring. It was that feeling I wanted.

For the cigarettes, sometimes they do taste and smell disgusting. And sometimes, just what I need. I do try to quit. A friend of mine who quit smoking during the pandemic says that cigarettes smell awful to him though. And he'd been smoking them for like 20 years or something.

I love sweet drinks like eiswein, bahama mamas, and June bugs. I've never not drank and not blacked out which is why I stopped drinking in my early 30s. It doesn't help that I chug anything I drink, be it water, tea or alcohol so I can very easily down 3 or 4 drinks in 10 minutes and when it's alcohol that's obviously a problem but somehow I've never been hungover.

I'm not an alcoholic, but some alcohol tastes good to me and others I need to have it be balanced out or enhanced with other mixers. I love cocktails! I enjoy drinking, but since I was binge drinking at the start of the pandemic to deal with being locked up, I've cut my drinking back to like once a week or every two weeks? Sometimes longer.

You get used to the taste when you have it all the time. And with cigarettes, they dull your taste buds.

Speaking only as myself, I love the feeling. A sip of alcoholic is like home. A dangerous place to be
