Isn’t she a nepo baby herself? That would mean being self aware and critical of things that she’s always benefited from.

Every career field has nepotism. I work with people whose parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, all work or worked in the same building. No doubt the nepobabies at my work got a bit of an advantage when they interviewed. But it’s also the type of work where no matter who you’re related to, if you aren’t cutting it, you aren’t cutting it.

right? like no one cares the kid of two artistic parents also gets that same talent and wants to pursue the same job

the issue is the shitty untalented asshole children who get handed work, suck at it, and then get handed the next job

Her Dr. comment is so silly cause yout still have to get a medical license to be a Dr.

The issue isn't going into the family business it's gaining extra and easy opportunities and pretending it's all earned through hard work and talent.

Yeah, getting your foot through the door is the hardest part, but they'll never understand. The total lack of self-awareness itself is a privilege.

still lots of nepotism in the medical field, kind of infuriating to be honest. I had to apply to a bunch of med schools to get in (applying cost a lot of money btw) while i know a whole bunch of students whose parents are doctors who only applied to one school (the one their parents work at as doctors) because they knew they would get in

Reminds me that 4 in 5 people going through a doctoral program have parents with doctorates. I was the 1 in 5 with parents that barely graduated high school and you feel like a big weirdo when they talk about how they were raised and grew up lmao

If her kids want to go into acting or music, more power to them, but it’s important to remember that they have connections that most young aspiring entertainers don’t have.

Not everyone has Stephen Spielberg for a godfather, so her opinions on nepobabies are irrelevant.

This issue isn’t wanting to do what your parents do it’s wanting to do what your parents do despite not being remotely good at it and getting the advantage over others because of who your family is. Nepotism was so rampant and almost demoralizing as a first generation college/law student. Literally felt like no matter how hard I tried there was a club or secret I would just never be part of.

I was the first in my fam to get a degree. My family are immigrants and farmers. For me to get a white collar job. It was like I was blessed by God himself.

I worked at a hotel (family owned) and busted my ass in management to see family members hired and promoted like crazy and having to clean up their dumbass shit because they had no business being in that job title. I ended up quitting because of doing their work for them to keep the dept running for WAY fucking less $$$.

Exactly - it's not the interest in your parents' work that is the issue. It's all the advantages you get as a result of your parents already knowing the system, having a network of people in the industry who will give you support, internships, jobs, introductions to other people who can help you, etc. Even when the nepo baby in question has the talent/smarts/grades to justify going into that industry, all of those other advantages put them ahead of just about everyone else.
