I will say that the way I see most people outside of ONTD talk about ONTD makes it clear none of them have used this place in like 10 years lol. I'm not even sure many of them are even aware it still exists!
My take on it is that since Brenden was the ONTD admin and an LJ employee, LJ has the resources to employee someone to moderate content in a community. Reddit has mostly volunteer/unpaid moderators, thus don’t have the resources to employe people enforce content rules. Reddit and other social media sites are saying “well we can’t control everyone, oh well” and let awful people remain on the platform, and aren’t legally obligated to be held accountable.
Is there a point even giving attention to this? If somebody thinks issues with social media started with ONTD and not with places like 4chan and things like corporations discovering that they can put ads everywhere, they should probably do more thinking and less social media posting.
