idk i think pundits, bloggers et al just incorrectly assumed she'd go supporting. but having read the book this movie is based on, and given what scorsese and dicaprio have been saying about it… she IS the lead. killers of the flower moon is mollie burkhart's story. scorsese has made that abundantly clear in pretty much all the press he's done for the film. imo this shouldn't come as a shock to anyone 🤷🏻‍♀️

i mean sure, if she's perceived as a lock for bsa then maybe it would be easier, but like… why go supporting when you're the lead? that's category fraud, no?

I haven’t seen her performance other than the trailer but I’m 100% rooting for her! She already feels magnetic and I hope she gets more opportunities after this!

Good for her! It'll definitely be a tougher road to a win, but it seems like they are all confident. I cannot wait to see this (and Poor Things, and The Color Purple, and every other eventual possible contender!!)

Sooo happy she went with lead. I feel like Best Actress is much more winnable than people think and there was probably a bit of racism in wanting to shove her to BSA (I’m aware she’s not in the whole film, I maintain it). Rooting for her!!!

yeah, relegating the movie's main osage character to supporting would have been a not great look imo. putting lily in lead just makes sense given how prominent she's been in the marketing and how both leo and scorsese have emphasized she's the heart of the movie.
