The character was also written to be uptight. The first time Ross meets her, she's angry.

Yeah, Idk what he's on about bc Emily was a pretty thankless character to play, and never really written to be likeable (except during the surprise party). We were never meant to root for her and Ross together, and they made her especially awful after the whole wedding mess.

No lies detected. It was really hard to beat the cast's comedic timing (and chemistry!) though, they were all extraordinary. And to even match David in that department would've taken someone at least as good as the other 5 Friends.

I don't think her scripted lines were ever meant to be that funny? At least not in the same way the core crew were.

Could be because the writers knew and wrote to her strengths, but even her first episode wasn't that comedic.

First off she wasn't supposed to be really funny - she was more "grounded" as well.
