I don't go by my first name either. A doctor at work asked me how I pronounce it and then proceeded to call me by it constantly, despite me telling him that I hated being called that. Finally one day he asked for the pronunciation again, this time in front of other people, and I said "it's actually pronounced [name I prefer]" and he finally listened.

It was the opposite for my dad and grandfather. Granddad had the nickname, Dad has the full name
