Aug 15, 2023 00:22

The 80's were kind of a mess- but, there were some really good songs out there.

My Mom vacuumed the house all the time playing lotsa good stuff and I just absorbed everything.

So, here we go!!!!!

The Best Goes Here... )

michael jackson / jackson family, janet jackson, 1980s, prince, stevie nicks

My Own Way is so great! I always have to sing along and be loud about it, it's such a fun song.

My Own Way is so underrated, especially the single version where the tempo is insane.

I still swear that John is one of the best bassists ever. MOW, Rio, Careless Memories... I love how so many of DD songs are bass driven.

Plus, I don't think Roger gets enough credit for how an incredible drummer he was.

John Taylor's YT 'education' vids are great. And still so damn handsome.

I was always fond of "'The Chauffeur." It's such a quietly beautiful song.

When I was 4 or 5, I played my Paula Abdul cassette tape so much it broke 🙃 but the bangers tho!

Opposites Attract
Knocked Out
The Way That You Love Me
Cold Hearted Snake
Straight Up

The whole album's good tho. It was the first time I truly remember loving a certain artist. Even more than New Kids on the Block!

In general, I do not love most 80s music (I do love plenty, though! I'm not saying I hate the whole decade!)--but to be totally fair, I was raised by a dad who is a diehard 70s progrock fan and the 80s killed so many of those bands. My music taste really mirrors his.

HOWEVER, I love Tears for Fears. I've seen them twice and they're so good live. If you ever get the opportunity, do go see them. I promise you won't be disappointed. They never play this one, though...

I loved Scritti Politti. I owned the "Cupid and Psyche 85" album and played the fuck out of it. It was very common of musicians to make a 12 inch dance version of their songs back then, and this version of "Absolute" absolutely slapped:
