i hope SAG strikes, especially after how sketch the SAG leadership has been acting as of late. actors deserve protection, fair pay (this means residuals), and also deserve to have their concerns and opinions heard re: AI. them teaming up with the WGA and making it a double strike would only make them both stronger. it sucks that the DGA took that deal, but also not surprising and it'll bite them in the ass when Zaslav gets his hand on an AI that will direct that HGTV slop he loves so much.

We do not believe that SAG-AFTRA members can afford to make halfway gains in anticipation that more will be coming in three years, and we think it is absolutely vital that this negotiation protects not just our likenesses, but makes sure we are well compensated when any of our work is used to train AI.
We want you to know that we would rather go on strike than compromise on these fundamental points, and we believe that, if we settle for a less than transformative deal, the future of our union and our craft will be undermined, and SAG-AFTRA will enter the next negotiation with drastically reduced leverage.

Other priorities are slightly more specific to the performers group, like bolstering the union’s health, retirement and pension plans. While doing so is often an item on the agenda in union negotiations, SAG-AFTRA’s benefits have unique issues. Several members who spoke with THR said they specifically wanted the union to raise its pension and health employer contribution caps; the pension cap hasn’t been increased since 1983. Meanwhile, a 2020 restructuring of the health ( ... )
