Michael was always one of my favorite characters since the first episode, and even though I would make WAAAAAAALT jokes as well, it was obvious something was right with how they treated his character. What a nightmare that must have been for everyone.

I still don't understand why he was in purgatory and wasn't there for the heaven scene. It was bullshit.

I remember making lots of “waltttttt” jokes as a tween and being annoyed by his character later in the show but looking back it was just a total misuse of his character and Perrineau’s skills, he’s a stellar actor

Yeah, I totally believe all the actors and writers cause a lot of that disrespect ended up translating to the on screen characters.

Harold Perrineau is right re: everything he said about his character.

This was a depressing but very interesting read. I loved the show as a teen, but even I knew it made no sense for Michael to do anything BUT fixate on his horrendously kidnapped child, and the way they fumbled that was pretty bad. I had no idea Cuse was such an utter dick, but wow. Men cannot handle power.

What makes people think they can do this at work?? There are micro aggressions and then there's this sub-Mad Men era blatant bigotry for no reason. I guess some of it is mob mentality; one person says something "edgy" and gets away with it, so the other losers chime in to be cool too. It's pathetic.

i don’t know anything about Lost but in a quote tweet about the article, comedian/writer Dewayne Perkins had this to say, and it’s now deleted:

We were taken out to lunch by executives and told there was no racism-it was just bullying

The fact that these people think that "just bullying" is okay on their set and somehow exonerates them says a lot.
