Say what you will about this season, but that almost twist of Giles being The First the whole time had me on the edge of my seat. 15 year old me was so shocked when they started realizing no one had touched him since he'd been back.

But did it make sense? No one hugged Giles when he came back? I just don’t think that’s in character for people like Dawn, Anya, Willow. Or Giles himself who had become so close to everyone.

They go to hug him at least once that I can clearly remember, and some of the potentials ran in between them, so they never got to. Similar things happened a couple other times. I always try to remember to look for that in the background when I rewatch it.

Would’ve so much preferred him being the First over how they continued ruining his relationship with Buffy after he ditched her in S6 to pull herself up by her bootstraps from grief, trauma, depression, and debt.

I have a lot of complicated feelings about this finale and the final season and the fact that I was supposed to feel good about all the Scoobies surviving, but ultimately I liked a lot of the Buffy moments in the final season and I felt good for her surviving, winning, and having a different future ahead of her.

And before this post includes the usual hate-fest for Spike wanted to add that I was just watching the Becoming Part 2 scene where he approaches Buffy to help save the world the first time. And then thinking about where his story ended on Buffy(not counting AtS)and how he helped save the world here and I still think it was a very interesting journey that I appreciated. Nothing about shipping, nothing about Marsters as a person, just that journey that I enjoyed watching play out.

And now I’ll disappear from this post forever lol.

Fuck this makes me feel old.

I both hate and love this finale. I feel like Buffy fans have a very complicated relationship with the show now.

i've been watching a lot of first time watchers reactions on youtube lately. it's so fun seeing ppl shocked over the twists like Angel losing his soul and Jenny dying for the first time.
