There was a fuck up at my local station and Becoming Part 2 didn't air and I had to wait all fucking summer for them to rerun it again before I could see it. Kids these days will never understand.

That happened with Graduation Day Part 1 in Season 3! The local WB station had a blackout for some reason and didn’t play it. I was working at a movie theater back then and it was opening night of Star Wars Episode I, so before the movie, I made an announcement in the auditorium asking if anyone taped tonight’s Buffy lol. Luckily they aired it a few days later but then of course the network delayed Part 2 a few months after that.

Angel losing his soul was the BIGGEST most UNEXPECTED thing that ever happened to me as a child. It's one of those things where it wouldn't hit the same nowadays with how easily things are spoiled.

Also I cried at the end of this episode for a variety of reasons but also since Buffy left town and I thought the show was over as a child.

Man, Buffy sending Angel to Hell and leaving town fucked me up big time. It still hits me in the hurty places when I hear Full of Grace by Sarah McLachlan playing.

I thought the same thing! 11 year old me was in literal tears screeeeaming “Come back Buffy! Come back!” My mom ran upstairs thinking I was hurt, lol. And I remember my older sister’s friend called the house right after and asked to speak to me cuz she knew I watched it. We were both a mess.

No but seriously. I was 14 and wrecked by this episode. On the plus side It introduced me to Sarah McLachlan and Surfacing, which was a masterpiece.

That was the first tv episode I ever remember crying at tbh. It still hits me a bit but now that I’m older I don’t necessarily cry at Angel dying, but all the emotional shit Buffy dealt with in that episode then realizing she can’t even go home. That episode hurts tbh. Buffy/Angel’s theme is def one of my favorite score pieces tbh. It’s just so damn emotive, I love it. If I’m super hormonal it will make me choke up a bit if I hear it.

The admiration I have for that score is something I struggle to articulate. Whoever decided to pair Whistler's speech with that piece knew exactly what they were doing. I still get a lump in my throat when I merely think about it, nevermind actually watching it!

Tbh Joss writing and directing both parts of Becoming AND the gift and them being so flawless is tragic tbh. Bad man amazing episodes

I have noticed there’s been a lot of fans in retrospect arguing that the female writers don’t get enough credit, that Joss’s contributions for Buffy were overrated, and I totally get where that sentiment is coming from after everything that’s come out since about what a horrible and manipulative person he was to deal with personally, but honestly yeah his Buffy episodes generally were always the standouts of each season and it’s hard to deny that.

I know that Restless is a bit of a love it or hate it finale, but that’s another episode of his that I really loved and could watch over and over again. And the musical <3

People are lying to themselves if they don't think Joss wrote and directed the best episodes of the show. Innocence, Hush, The Body, The Gift, Once More with Feeling, etc

Like you shouldn't like Joss Whedon, but don't rewrite history. (Also Marti messed up the show so like huh?)

Yeah I did a rewatch last year and every time an episode was amazing it was almost always done by Joss lol, it is what it is
