Katie Sorensen is a mommy influencer who on December 2020, posted a series of videos relating the failed attempt by a Latin couple of kidnapping her kids outside a Michael’s at Petaluma, California and the subsequent police report to incarcerate the perpetrators, as a way to raise awareness for parents to always be watchful. The videos reached over 4 million views.

It was later revealed however, that she falsely accused the couple just as a way to generate content for her online profile. Police states that the videos were posted a week after the supposed attempt and had details that contradicted the report or were just plain undisclosed. The accused couple, Sadie and Eddie Martínez, also collaborated with the police department to debunk any responsibility.

The influencer was ultimately convicted for falsely filing a police report and making up the entire incident, facing up to over 6 months of jail with a $100,000 bail. Her attorney claims that she did not lie and just misperceived a series of random events happening around her as the kidnapping of her kids gone bad.
