I saw Past Lives this week and thought it was fantastic. A very strong debut by a first-time director in Celine Song; she keeps the film grounded and nuanced, never straying into the melodramatic, despite the premise for it. As much as it’s a story of love, past and present (and future); it’s also a story of immigration and a reflection on the life you leave behind to gain the life you have. Also, fantastic performances from all three main actors but I have to give a special shout out to Teo Yoo for absolutely destroying me in his last scene.

Also, saw Dungeons & Dragons, which was just a fun time. I didn't find it as funny as Game Night but the cast chemistry and the fun fantasy setting made up enough for it. Also loved that Hugh Grant is basically just playing the same character from Paddington 2 (and I mean that in the best of ways).

The trailer for Past Lives had the chemistry of the actors bouncing off the screen, love films like that and hope it comes to Canada soon.

We went to see Beau is Afraid on Tuesday, and I have to say, I've never seen anything else like it ( ... )

is anyone else going to see Spirited Away: Live on Stage this coming week? I'm seeing the Hashimoto Version on Sunday but I don't think I'll have time to see the other version on Thursday.

will absolutely be checking out chevalier! it's just a matter of when i'll have a chance.

i hit a movie watching lull for a bit but ended up watching a bunch this past week: decision to leave (tang wei is so good), the first two john wick movies (which i'd somehow never seen before and i'm excited to watch the next two), and what's love got to do with it (weirdly i can't decide if it was too long or too short, but either way i think the central relationship needed more focus in the first half).

I didn't love Decision to Leave, but Tang Wei was for sure the best part!
