It just infuriates me that it took this long to get to Halle, and then a 20 year gap to get to Michelle. I like the pomp and ceremony and the general fun atmosphere of debating and betting on Award Season outcomes, but maybe it is time that at least we as film pundits look outside the Oscars. I know we don't consider it to be the end all be all of what makes a movie good, but still.

On a lighter note, please, Sony Pictures Classics, rerelease CTHD AGAIN but wider release now that she won PLEASE!

That is pathetic.

And it also shows how non-white actors are not given access or opportunities long before awards like the Oscars.

There are far fewer non-white actors at all which is awful.

But there are so many little white movies with big white hearts

I saw someone getting shit for saying Michelle would be the first "openly Asian" winner but it's true. I didn't realize how many actresses in the 30s and 40s who were originally born in colonized countries did full-on white passing and changed their entire identities.

also saw "identifies as asian"

it all sounds so clunky, but i don't know how else to word it either while respecting Merle Oberon

Yeah, Twitter was losing its mind over some random article saying "identifies as Asian" this morning, but yes, Merle Oberon had very understandable reasons for hiding her identity. Her story is so sad, including the fact that her mother and grandmother were both VERY young when they gave birth.

I‘m still obsessed with Halle‘s dress and her speech still makes me 😭 when she names the other Black actresses

Her dress is like top 5 all time Oscar looks for me.

they just put her dress on display at the Oscars museum! it really is one of the best winner dresses, and influential too. the dress gaga wore on the red carpet this year had the sheer and a low rise hem, just like halle's 2002 dress

I always wondered if they kept their dresses afterwards or if they have to return them? Why have I always assumed they keep them lol
