Not only did Mia Wasikowska find the pace to not be a good fit, she wasn't necessarily fulfilled by the work.

“Maybe if the payoff is good and you feel really great doing it, then that’s okay, but I didn’t.” https://t.co/pdssoA21sq

Good for her for getting out of a situation that wasn't working for her, regrouping, and reclaiming it on her own terms. I can't say I ever found her appealing as an actress and never cared for any of the roles she played, but I do respect her knowing what was best for her and following through with it instead of continuing on as just another Hollywood commodity.

That's so funny I remember someone bringing her up last week in a FFA.

I watch a lot of indie movies so I still see her a lot. She really is one of those actresses who is just an extraordinary presence in everything she does. And she works with a lot of acclaimed directors in indie movies so she's always on the festival circuit. Frankly she has a dream career in a lot of ways.

Yes! I recently saw Judy & Punch and she was good in that. It's a sort of fairytale-esque movie where she plays a puppeteer who's husband is abusive and charming. Be warned even though the movie has a joke-y tone it has pretty dark themes and situations.

She was also really good in Bergman Island which is kind of an uneven film about a director and her husband at a working writer's retreat. Half the film is the director describing her work in progress to her husband and Mia plays a character in the film-within-the-film but I thought she was the best part.

ALSO she's shooting a movie with Jessica Hausner. She's not really a big name outside of cinephiles but the lead actress in her last film won Best Actress at Cannes so it's a big get for her and something to watch out for.

I've been wanting to see Bergman Island - it's definitely on my 'to watch' list.

I really liked her in "Stoker", "Maps to the Stars" and "Damsel". And I like what I've seen and read of her in interviews. She seems very grounded and thoughtful.

omg, I didn't realize she had actually retreated from Hollywood work. I can't remember the last movie I saw her in.

She’s heavily rumored to be a leader of an anti-5G terrorist group that has been linked to attacks on towers on multiple continents. She funds her activities through acting but also botnet DDOS attacks for whoever can pay via the dark web/crypto.

Interesting person, I am eager to see more of her work.
