This is maybe because I’ve been listening to a podcast about a serial killer that won’t name the person (initials only + all reference to the media moniker is bleeped out ), and constantly names the victims and talks about who they were, but how hard would it have been to do a series about the victims of JD?

You could still cast an actor as the guy, and he probably scene steal, but at least it would be a different perspective and might not be as triggering to the families.

wouldn't an outright fictionalization about the lives of the victims before they're brutally murdered be in just as poor taste? the dahmer series does that in one of the episodes, actually

I didn’t see it and JD is probably a bad story to start with, I was just trying to think of a way to target true crime without putting so much emphasis on the killer and how you could bring more focus to the families (if they wanted it).
