I understand why people are taking pictures and videos, but at the same time sometimes the reporting feels very shock value. These people are suffering and they deserve some space and privacy. People feel guilty because they can't look at pictures and videos of horrible disasters, but it's a very normal human response to not want to look at those types of things, and that's totally okay too. I guess I just came here to say that it's okay to take a break from the news if it's too much.

turkey's government is openly trying to suppress/control the information that is getting out about the aftermath (and severity) of the earthquake through official channels, so social media posts/independent reporting are really the only way that's truly conveying how bad things are there. it is overwhelming though, the videos and images of children affected have gotten to me in moments

I appreciate that my country’s search and rescue team has been posting blurred images/videos of their rescue efforts. It’s a good way to share what’s happening on the ground without it feeling like they’re exploiting victims.

Anyone see the story in NPR about the sweet infant who was literally born (for induction) during the quake and still attached to her mom who passed under rubble. She’s alone with doctors 🥺🥺

that story fucked me up, between her mother giving birth in these circumstances to the little one having lost her entire family before ever getting the chance to know them... just devastating.

Is this when artists with private planes and billionaire can chip in for supplies or air lift or something. Like I know you can’t just being flying silly Billy and need clearance for airspace but this is when I’d be learning about if I had my very own private sky transportation

They'll do it in a heart beat for something like the Notre Dame disaster but not when human lives are at stake. Especially when its a tragedy that occurs in this part of the world.
