The shock nom has created a brewing shitshow within the Academy, which is said to be looking at whether the team behind “To Leslie” violated the rules with their aggressive grassroots lobbying.

It's not really too too grassroots if you have connections to big well-connected names lol.

I mentioned it in the previous post but what gets me is how Andrea managed to inspire such support when other bigger more famous celebs have gotten snubbed or shut-out from landing a nomination lol???? That's wild and unbelievable to me!! I wonder if some celebs who are unlucky getting a nom/win are looking at some of their friends like "....UM WHY DIDN'T YOU DO THAT FOR ME?!?!?!??!" LOOOOOOL!!

I like Andrea's talents but I hope this blows up in her face especially if she steals it from Michelle! BA has been between Michelle and Cate.....Cate mentioned support for Andrea during her critic win....so I'm wondering if she's willing to back down in favor of Andrea winning?

Re: your second point… it could also be viewed as Cate offering up Andrea as an alternative choice to Michelle. Like, “hey, it’s been between Cate and Michelle, but maybe funnel all Michelle’s votes over to Andrea, so it can be Cate v. Andrea.” I guess that would be a pretty cynical view, though. I don’t think Cate would purposefully do that! But any white woman might inadvertently do it.

idk...its been mentioned in other posts that Andrea's votes are possibly more likely to come from people who would have voted for Cate? if Michelle nabs it because another white woman split the vote....loooooolllll.....

That would be ideal! I hope that’s what happens.

It wasn't grassroots, media - stop saying that!

honestly, stephanie hsu and bryan tyree henry were the true organic grassroots campaign driven by genuine passion for their performances.

Best case: Andrea rescinds it herself, with grace, thanks the efforts her friends made and the next person who should be on the ballot moves up. I really want this woman to do the right thing. It would be better than forever being the one who hung onto her nom that was tainted. Her last name is going to be a verb for fake Oscar shenanigans and that will be her legacy.

The noise is not going to end, someone will go after the campaign and ask to see every email that went out, every Instagram DM to see if any member of the Academy was improperly contacted

Lol she deserves for “Riseborough’d” to be associated with awards lobbying after this!! 😂

But truthfully no way she’s bowing out of this, it’s mentioned in the post that a lot of money was most likely invested into this. If she managed to make this line-cutting leap, she’ll wanna reach the finish line.

I wish but honestly she deserves this shitstorm. And she was more than likely complicit, she’s likely satisfied with herself and white womaning it up to her friends, most likely crying and wondering why she is getting so much shit, she didn’t do anything different than anyone else! She seems shameless lol.

I only hope she takes out all her fellow white people for this shit especially that frances fischer woman. I would feel bad for the next person in line too, most likely danielle deadwyler. Her nom will have an asterisk too and she doesn’t deserve that

Having watched the movie - Andrea should have been nominated. Danielle and Viola should have been as well. The two who should have been out in my opinion were white Michelle and Ana (even though I didn’t see Blonde).

I hope people don’t get hyper focused on Andrea and remember that the issues arise in the first place due to the Academy seemingly always nominating known folks - even when they don’t deserve it; continuing to over look performances be non-white women; overlooking performances in certain genres and indies…..

This business with Andrea is simply a symptom of larger and long existing problems with the Academy.

While Michelle Yeoh and Cate Blanchett are deservedly the front runners. I think this whole thing might end up helping Cate Blanchett when her third; she’s a known quantity and the “safe choice”. Most of the voters likely haven’t seen either movie and Tar is seen as the more prestige of the too.

BUT Dolly De Leon should have been nominated
That was a gross mistake by the academy

Nobody like U out of the best songs noms as well
We will never get to see 4*Town perform live at the Oscars Shame on the jury Shame!

*im all over this post.. I guess I have some feelings*

Viola Davis maybe isn’t a perfect representative for under-appreciated black actors… but Deadwyler was great in a part dealing with major historical importance. And historical importance HAS mattered in Oscar campaigns before. How many dead white presidents/WWII figures have been nominated before? It just stings a little that such a great performance about very neglected Black American historical figures is swept away in the name of… whatever To Leslie was doing. (Haven’t seen it, maybe it was great.)

I liked TWK, but it def wasn't among viola's absolute best movies or best performances imo. I can live with her not getting in this year. Danielle, however, absolutely carried that movie and deserves it.

It's so annoying seeing this described as grassroots. It reminds of the tea party being called grassroots. Enough with the bullshit this was orchestrated just like any other campaign.

I do think Andrea is a good actress and maybe even deserving of an Oscar nom for all I know but this was shady. Well the part that annoyed me the most was Frances telling people to vote for her because Viola and Danielle were locks.

Now I'm curious to see what else was in those emails.

the wild thing is Frances Fisher's original post only had Cate, Michelle, and Viola on it as "locks." She edited it later to add Danielle.

that makes me even more suspicious that she knew exactly what she was doing

that makes her come across as even more calculating. like she realized that danielle was a threat after she had written the initial post and so added her in as a purported lock to sway votes. why else edit her name in after the fact?
