The shock nom has created a brewing shitshow within the Academy, which is said to be looking at whether the team behind “To Leslie” violated the rules with their aggressive grassroots lobbying.

Best case: Andrea rescinds it herself, with grace, thanks the efforts her friends made and the next person who should be on the ballot moves up. I really want this woman to do the right thing. It would be better than forever being the one who hung onto her nom that was tainted. Her last name is going to be a verb for fake Oscar shenanigans and that will be her legacy.

The noise is not going to end, someone will go after the campaign and ask to see every email that went out, every Instagram DM to see if any member of the Academy was improperly contacted

Lol she deserves for “Riseborough’d” to be associated with awards lobbying after this!! 😂

But truthfully no way she’s bowing out of this, it’s mentioned in the post that a lot of money was most likely invested into this. If she managed to make this line-cutting leap, she’ll wanna reach the finish line.

I wish but honestly she deserves this shitstorm. And she was more than likely complicit, she’s likely satisfied with herself and white womaning it up to her friends, most likely crying and wondering why she is getting so much shit, she didn’t do anything different than anyone else! She seems shameless lol.

I only hope she takes out all her fellow white people for this shit especially that frances fischer woman. I would feel bad for the next person in line too, most likely danielle deadwyler. Her nom will have an asterisk too and she doesn’t deserve that

Having watched the movie - Andrea should have been nominated. Danielle and Viola should have been as well. The two who should have been out in my opinion were white Michelle and Ana (even though I didn’t see Blonde).

I hope people don’t get hyper focused on Andrea and remember that the issues arise in the first place due to the Academy seemingly always nominating known folks - even when they don’t deserve it; continuing to over look performances be non-white women; overlooking performances in certain genres and indies…..

This business with Andrea is simply a symptom of larger and long existing problems with the Academy.

While Michelle Yeoh and Cate Blanchett are deservedly the front runners. I think this whole thing might end up helping Cate Blanchett when her third; she’s a known quantity and the “safe choice”. Most of the voters likely haven’t seen either movie and Tar is seen as the more prestige of the too.

I don’t think she’ll back down considering she spent like $10-15k of her own money campaigning.

the industry trades are all digging into this, because this type of bandwagon “campaign” threatens the entire ecosystem of awards season events, roundtables, etc that they put a lot of their resources into/makes them money. they’re naming and shaming to try to stop this from becoming common

Yep. This specifically mentions MGM and Sony because the studios are pissed that they might lose some control over campaigning if this is allowed to sit.

Yep. Because they want to maintain the status quo. People as always are missing the forest for the trees.

I hope she backs out, but after the shameless campaign, I don't think she will

She’s not gonna step down. By the sound of it, a lot of money (her own and other people’s) was invested in this campaign. The pressure is too much. I don’t get it.
Instead, I hope her ass gets disqualified. She and her team deserves to be put on blast.

I hope she gets disqualified. White ppl get away with this stuff too easily. The way they orchestrated this and then came out being like “I’m shocked omg” when it worked... And now you have Frances Fisher backtracking on Twitter/IG to make sure people know she loves Viola/Danielle because she knew she fucked up naming them. Embarrassing for everyone involved

if the nom for her gets rescinded no one will be nominated on her place, the category just stays at four nominees

Exactly. She thought she's gonna get a Melissa Leo or a Mo'Nique, now she's getting all this heat from emails and paper trail 🤭🤭🤭

George C. Scott tried this actually and failed spectacularly. He wrote the Acadamy a telegram which read in part: "I respectfully request that you withdraw my name from the list of nominees. My request is in no way intended to denigrate my colleagues."

Not only did the Academy refused to rescind his nomination, he actually won.
