My sister was telling me how common this is and how people who actually have diabetes are having trouble getting this medication because doctors are just distributing to anybody who wants to lose weight. Fucking wild.

Does taking a medication just to lose 5 lbs seem a little extreme or is it just me?

I have 2 family members that are taking it to lose weight. One had to stop due to side effects and the other threw up and had a #2 accident but is still getting the shots because she wants to lose weight no matter what.

I know 10 people on it and none of them were even overweight before. I'd even say half of them were underweight to start off.

...do they know the high mortality rate of eds and long term health effects or would they rather just be skinny

the thing i don't really get about the popularity of ozempic is that i'm pretty sure to not gain the weight back you need to be on it for the rest of your life. there's probably some cases where people can maintain after getting off of it, especially if you're starting at a high weight and lose a lot, but people taking it for 5lbs... I guess the money side isn't really a problem for Hollywood types but i still wouldn't really trust the longterm effects of it

There’s definitly emerging evidence that it is changing peoples brain chemistry and some of the affects are sticking around after stopping medium term use. But yes some people will require it long term.

I'm overweight, so have ended up seeing a decent bit of vids on my TikTok FYP, mostly from doctors, and it sounds to me like there's starting to be a shift in the understanding of obesity and treating it more like a chronic condition. Like, if someone has high blood pressure, usually they don't just pull a patient off once blood pressure is under control. So that is I think how they're maybe looking into obesity now and that if they do put out meds to help with weight loss, they need to also be something someone can stay on for life. But I do not trust our pharmaceutical companies, so I don't know how that will actually play out, but I am actually starting to get a little hopeful that doctors are starting to put more effort and time into understanding more about it all.
