Jeremy Renner Suffered Snowplow Accident While Trying to Save Nephew, Says Sheriff's Office Report https://t.co/LqYEmA2ITh - People (@people) January 25, 2023
Oh wow. I won’t fuck with mechanical issues. Too paranoid to let that shit happen even if by mistake or accident. Ironically enough is that I’m studying auto technology and still learn a lot but I’d feel horrible if I left something on by mistake. Hence me triple check everything despite being told not to trip over it lol.

It's insane to me that this is apparently a thing people don't do in America? Because the cars are all automatic gearboxes or something? I've never heard of people leaving the car in park without the handbrake. The idea of leaving your car without the handbrake on is as if you're actively trying to let it roll to me.
yeah idk why it's not commonplace here. but my dad is English (and also primarily a manual shift driver) and he passed the parking brake habit on to me.
i wonder if part of it is that here it's often called the e-brake or emergency brake so people think it's an 'in case of emergency' thing?
Yes perhaps that's part of it. Here you would instantly fail any driving test or review if you didn't put your handbrake on when you were in park - it would be considered not knowing something so basic about a car you shouldn't even be in the driver's seat.
I know he’s a pos, but just looking at this as a general human experience… it’s really an incredible story. Him protecting his nephew only for his nephew to help save his life. Bruised and probably traumatized, but still alive and in tact. I wish everyone could have such a positive ending to an accident.

It literally takes half a second to do and doesn't cause any harm to anyone, so just do it! Make it part of your driving habits.
