I don't see the point of reusing the same actor in a different role in the same universe. Give someone else ago.

I would guess the have him under contract for a set number of movies and this is their way of not having to pay him out of his contract if they just recast him in another role. Aquaman was wildly successful. I do not doubt there were renegotiations between that one and the sequel lol.
