Broadway’s revival of ‘FUNNY GIRL’ starring Lea Michele breaks the all-time box office record at the August Wilson Theatre.

The revival collected $2.005 million over eight performances during the week ending on Dec. 18.

Broadway has never been an easy business, but it's the new shows and shows without celebrities that are the most vulnerable to early closings because they are much harder sells for tourists.

Not shocked that Funny Girl is doing so well, but I am curious to see how it holds up this winter. January through March can be particularly bleak, which is why a lot of struggling shows close up right after the holidays. In fact, Almost Famous and A Strange Loop have announced closing dates, but they aren't actually closing til January.

A lot of the recent closing notices didn't exactly shock me but it does feel like the lifespan of shows are a lot shorter post-shutdown. Makes me a little concerned about which shows will be able to make it to Broadway in the near future.
