sourceafter the porn ban back in 2018 almost killed the platform tumblr now says that nudity, mature subject matters, and sexual themes are ok to post again. not explicit porn tho. so yay for boobs

OMG, LOL! I forgot about this! Way back when it mattered, I was sf annoyed that Tumblr was being censored, when that was one of the only places that didn't have that. After that Tumblr lost popularity, and I stopped liking it, going on it as much. They censored so many of my reposts. I do still occasionally go on there to snag some gifs to make icons from my fave singers, tv shows, movies, etc. So many people are really talented at making gifs on there. I was really good at it myself at one point.

look. tumblr is the worst, the birthplace to a lot of internet ideology that has infected the rest of the internet because everyone ran away after the porn ban.

but it's also been the closest thing to a diary i've kept for the last ten years. i love everyone i follow there, i love that i've been able to curate something so thoroughly and completely mine. i can opt out of an algorithm trying to show me or sell me shit, my likes are private, i can turn off reblogs now. idk man, it's a hellsite but it's mine and i just hope all the people running back to it from twitter or wherever wipe their feet before they come in because i cannot do another bone witch or weird hamilton mermaid rpf scandal.

i was in the glee fandom during that time and i've literally been able to track the way shit we said when it was airing trickled down to other fandoms. a lot of the shit is still in use now, but by like. teenagers in the Stranger Things fandom who unironically think that Byler becoming canon would be revolutionary, as if we're still in 2010 lol. same with the 'yourfaveisproblematic' shit lol. sometimes i wonder if that's how things were gonna end up anyways, but that blog literally did not help lol.

Yeah, I thought that this was always the policy. Maybe they've just improved their algorithms and want to get more users in the wake of the twitter disaster.

I never stopped using Tumblr. I don’t use it for the social aspect though because I never really figured out how to build a community lol (I’m too used to LJ groups!!) I just reblog my gifs, photo sets and quotes in peace.
