I don't have a pet because I'm allergic and B, I realize that I want to travel and know that if I travel a lot, the dog will suffer. Like, why do that? And also, bringing a dog around the chaos that is toddlers?

The toddler thing really just depends on the dogs (and the toddlers, I guess). My BIL and SIL have two border collie / husky mixes, and two kids under five, and it's fine. If anything, the more insane dog just matches the energy of the four-year-old, lmao.

Meanwhile, I have two cats and one of them CANNOT be around little kids. She will straight-up try to maul toddlers. You win some, you lose some.

Yeah, my dog is hates my nieces and nephew. She's an old lady (we've had her longer than the kids have been alive) who is used to peace and quiet, and those kids run around too much for what she can handle, and are super noisy. Because they're kids. We put her up when they're over and she's much happier for it.

If it makes you feel any better, my dogs loves barking at kids from afar.
I'm sure she must be the origin of several phobias by now.
idk why she 'hates' them, it's not like she's ever had a bad experience with them or anything...

Tbh, I think it's way better for a dog to be rehomed than to stay in a place with owners who are unable or unwilling to meet their needs. So like, idk. I'd rather not shame someone for making a decision that is ultimately for the best for the animal.

You are right because she could have dumped him in a dump like others or harmed the animal.

I just wish people would fucking think before getting animals and kids. They aren't your accessory and they have their own opinions and thoughts and you trying to make them fit into your aesthetic is just gross.

yeah, i genuinely believe rehoming scenarios cannot be judged equally but SO MANY cases of rehoming all boil down to people simply being idiots and adopting on the spur of the moment. I can't help but feel like we should be harsh so maybe folks will be smarter before getting an animal. people (on social media, mostly) really need to stop acting like 'get a dog/cat' is really just a matter of waking up and deciding you want one. Those are lives you'll need to be responsible for so you better take it seriously.

The current “trend” is people adopting axolotls (spelling?) because their kids saw it in Minecraft and they’re being dumped to shelters because no one knows how to care for them. 😢

I’m not seeing the issue here. The dog wasn’t happy and was happier with someone else. People are so dramatic about animals - there’s a difference between rehoming an unhappy pet and abandoning it.

further to your point, the way people view re-homing a happy pet also annoys me. pets are not people, they are blessedly unaware of many things, including long-term planning. it is gut-wrenching to re-home an animal and it's not something people undertake lightly. just because a dog is happy doesn't mean the decision to re-home is the wrong one.

I wish people would stop throwing stones at situations they know nothing about.

“it's not something people undertake lightly”

That’s where you lost me cus there sure is plenty of people who take it lightly because they don’t see dogs or animals in general as beings withs feelings, but as disposable/useful objects.

So, while in this particular case the rehoming was handled correctly (though there’s something to be said about people adopting pets without thinking it through and the pet consequently being unhappy for it), that is often not the case, so I will keep throwing my stones tbh.

I don't disagree that there are people who do take it lightly and treat pets like disposable toys. I guess I don't think it's fair to the people who have had to go through the heartbreaking process of re-homing a loved animal to always assume that it was irresponsibility or someone treating a pet like a disposable toy. we don't actually know these people and there won't always be a post like this to clear the air. I would rather wait until there's a reason to throw stones, I guess.

How is this a controversy? It's better for the dog to be in a home that fits.

Cause the accusation was the nanny saying Olivia rehomed the dog to abandon it cause she wanted to be able to travel with Harry.

It’s only a controversy because 1) the Nanny claimed Olivia gave away Gordon to spend more time with Harry and 2)the Nanny claimed SHE arranged for Gordon to be rehomed to the dog walker. The rescue and dog walker are refuting both of these points, casting doubt on the nanny’s credibility.

This is not an issue. It's a cute pup and it is happy and loved. Leave it.
