I watched it, and I felt it was so disturbing, wrong, out of line and straight FUCKED UP the way they portrayed Dahmer’s “relationship” with Tony.

I didn’t know anything about Tony until I watched, and then looked him up and if I were his relative I would be raising hell how they made it seem like he was in a relationship with Dahmer when that had connection to reality.

My jaw dropped when I found out about that. That is so seriously sick and fucked up and completely unfair, for lack of a better word, to Tony and his family. It’s deplorable to fictionalize a relationship between a killer and one of his victims.

It was beyond unnecessary- what purpose did it serve?! It didn’t even help make Dahmer seem sympathetic like so many of these True Crime docs try to do with their villains

this was so weird to me too to the point where i thought it MUST have happened for them to include it but looking it up shows it was completely false. i thought the focus on tony in that ep and that they featured so much sign language was cool but they could've done just as good a job of focusing on him/humanizing him without making it seem like they were in a relationship

This infuriates and disgusts me. They really tried to play it off like they were doing this to “remember his victims” yet they didn’t talk to any the victims’ families beforehand, aren’t giving any of the money made from this tragedy-porn to the victims’ families, and include completely false bullshit that never happened.

Ryan Murphy just wanted to see his bestest boy play a “sexy serial killer” because he’s a fucking psychopath.

I am happy I did not contribute to this. True crime has never been appealing to me because it always feels exploitive to the victims

Can’t believe we’re living in an era where fucking Dahmer is receiving sympathy from people. DAHMER!

Same and same. My brother pays for the family account I use but I haven’t watched many stuff on Netflix aside from Stone Ocean lately and honestly if he quits subscribing I won’t miss it, with all the trash they keep churning out.

it was word of mouth, social media, because evan peters looked like him so much and they wanted to see how sick it was :(

Streisand effect. A lot of people leapt out for free attention and affirming virtue signaled asspats on their moral high horses trying to pre-emptively shame people for watching it, which only made people really curious and want to watch it even more. If everyone just shut up and only let the family members be the primary ones sharing how they felt, it wouldnt have shot up to fame quite as high. But no, every damn liberal teen had to make a fucking annoying dancing tiktok stating facts in that annoying know-it-all tone about how youre the worst most deranged person alive if you're into crime shows. Trying to make it taboo but turning it appealing instead-anything to not agree with those freaks ( ... )

I can't tell if it's my algorithm or if Netflix is really leaning on the true crime doc category, but yesterday when I scrolled through it for the first time in months, it was recommending them left and right.

Trending, Netflix original, the actual true crime category, award winning, thrillers, etc etc. Every category had them.

I feel like the last time I watched a true crime doc on Netflix was when Abducted in Plain Sight came out, so I feel like that shouldn't be weighing too heavily in my recommendations. Though I guess they might consider that doc on Mormons also crime related.
