Nearly a year after she was shot and killed on the set of Alec Baldwin’s Western movie “Rust,” the estate of Halyna Hutchins has come to a settlement with the film production.

Can’t fault her husband for taking a settlement to avoid the trauma (and cost) of a court case. Hope he got a ridiculous amount, not that that’ll ever make it right, and that Baldwin continues to not get work.

Usually you file a civil case simply to recoup damages (money) and most of them settle. A criminal case could still happen.

The state can still pursue charges is they wish. Especially in a case like this where someone was killed. Plus, a criminal investigation was already ongoing. I doubt that was part of the settlement.

Civil and criminal are two different court systems and the cases are treated separately of their own merit. You can win a civil case and still be charge with a crime and vice versa.

As Halyna's husband is executive producing now, I'm sure he'll make sure there'll be stringent safety precautions going forward.
