If I was rich I def have enough to last generations cause I'm not a big spendaaaa!! Even the occasional splurge wouldn't put a dent in my wallet or bank account.

My husband and I always talk about what we'd do with a windfall, and it is super boring. Pay off the house/car/student loans (which is less than $200k total), and then just eat out more because we hate cooking. Maybe buy video games as soon as they drop to STEAM instead of waiting for a sale.

back when I had something of a social life, I had no money and had to work a series of awful jobs that got entirely in the way of having said social life. like literally within weeks of scoring my first full time job - which I largely sought & took because I was tired of working weekends doing retail - the guy who worked weekend overnight shifts quit after several years and as the newest employee, I had to be the one to cover them until they could find someone else. and since it was a federal job, they not only had to interview people but then wait literal months for the background check come through. so I had to work overnight weekend shifts and then 3 daytime shifts during the week and not only did I not see my friends in any capacity, but I completely destroyed my body with my sleep schedule and had to quit after a couple months because of it and went right back to having 0 income and was unemployed for over a year! and those friends stopped talking to me (after intentionally scheduling parties when they knew I'd be working and it ( ... )

I will say though that maybe a sign of actual frugality on my part is that even if I could technically afford it I truly cannot imagine paying some of the rent prices in this city, like I don't think I could stomach paying $3000+ a month for a 1br unless I was making MONEY and it was NICE. my apartment is tiny and has its faults but it suits my needs for half that and I would have to make like, 10x what I make now before I considered moving out and giving up that sweet, sweet stabilized rent lol

Maybe signing up for local activities or lessons (like learning a new language) could help meeting new people who share your interests. Now with the pandemic there might be online lessons for groups of people.

Treat yourself!!!!! It is your time to shine!!! I went on a solo trip to Italy and it was one of the best things I’ve EVER DONE 😆🥰

September and October are much cheaper for plane tickets and Airbnb. Airbnb is way cheaper in Europe and they DONT charge bs cleaning fees while making YOU clean. I went in October 2018 and my Airbnb at Lake Como, a 2BR2B apartment RIGHT BY THE WATER was $50/night. Then I rented a car and drove to the Umbrian countryside and stayed at an old villa in San Venanzo for $20/night!!!!! I’d recommend Italy or if there’s somewhere else that you have passion for, that feeds your soul… make plans and GO!!!!! bring your cutest outfits!!!!

You still have the rest of your life to make friends and cultivate friendships, but also don’t be afraid to enjoy yourself solo!!!! 🥰

i am great with saving money but absolutely terrible at anything to do with investing, i just don't care lol. i saved up a lot back home before i moved country when i was trying to get onto the property ladder so i just have like 60k sitting in a bank account in the uk doing nothing.

i should also probably stop ignoring the student loans companies who are trying to contact me lol

One thing I am wanting to get into is investing based on congress members. Capitoltrades.com tracks what they're investing in and divesting, as they essentially are insider trading because of the committees they are on and the information they get before us. You could try that if you're wanting to get into investing without doing too much studying.

You should care. Your money is going backwards due to inflation. Look up broad market ETFs, if you put your money in that you'll own a piece of all the top performing companies. Set and forget and hold.

I had to go back to my parents’ to rebuild my life because CA is insanely expensive, I have a large good boy, and they have a big backyard.

I’ve been saving money for a year and I’ll MOVE TO THE EAST COAST NEXT YEAR with my dog and bestie and her kid!!!! We will rent a 3 BR/2B house and I’ll only owe 1/3 rent! I’m gonna go to school out there too!!!! I’m going to heal so much more 🥹

Any North Carolina bbs here??? 😁

In TN not NC but really wanna stress how big of a culture shock you’re in for. Even if you move to a more liberal part like Asheville it can be…a lot living down here. Personally we’re getting out next year bc it doesn’t feel like a good place to raise kids anymore so just make sure you & your bestie really weigh the pros & cons!

Oh dear, one of my close friends warned me about this too, knowing that I’m Vietnamese American and my bestie is Filipino. 🥺

I reallllly appreciate this very considerate heads-up, bb. Seriously 🥰 Thank you, bb. It will basically be for my school program, which would be three years. If it’s THAT bad, I’ll just do the pre requisite classes there the first year and move again for the program.
