I read she got SEVEN standing ovations in total. Which seems absolutely insane to me, but means that she did really well.

Or that the audience was packed with her friends/family/fans.

I think this has become de rigueur for first/last performances for celebrities in musicals on Broadway.

I saw Hello, Dolly! with Bette Midler (too many times to count) and there was always a standing o after the title number (which was totally unnecessary in my mind and I looooved the show and the number). At her first performance back in the show after Bernadette Peters and at the last performance there was a standing o after almost every song. It’s too much.

She sounds incredible. She has a magnificent voice tbh and I didn’t expect anything less of her. I saw it with Beanie and liked her but thought the play itself was the problem. I’m sure that’s still true, but I’d love to go back and see Lea in it

Lukewarm take, but the book of the show has always been the primary problem. It drags so much you need someone with a voice that’ll make you forget how long the show is taking and even enjoy sitting through the dull bits

omg totally. i went on sunday and saw it with julie benko. she was adorable and charismatic, hilarious with a great voice. act 1 was pretty entertaining and fun, so i was wondering why so many people trashed the show. but then act 2 was so terrible the only saving grace really was her voice, and that i was invested in her as a person because of act 1.

I read on twitter JG was the one leading the standing ovations. But seeing her killing ‘Don’t Rain on My Parade’ 😤. Damn, still a racist tho 😒 and a bully I am like that gif.

I hate it here

the second lea walked on stage a twink in opera gloves leapt to his feet and the entire audience followed with a standing ovation
