Hey there’s an pretty damn good all-new episode of The Orville: New Horizons dropping on @hulu in a few minutes. - Seth MacFarlane (@SethMacFarlane) July 28, 2022
What do you think????? Favorite part? Least favorite? Only one episode left! 😭
-Someone on Reddit hilariously referred to the actress who played Charlie as Seth's "latest daughter-aged girlfriend" and it was all I could think about whenever she was on screen.
-I just did not like Charlie as a character, and sacrificing herself didn't change that. Seth did a much better job of writing his last daughter-aged girlfriend into the show. She was the Scrappy-Do of the show and I'm glad she's gone.
-Overall I thought the episode was fun. I know it's a Trek homage, but the space dog-fighting and the "energy weapon in a stone temple" was giving me major SG-1 vibes and I was all the way here for it.
-I didn't mind the Kaylon turn. It was abrupt but I'm hoping that settling the Kaylon war opens the door for the Wraith/Xenomorphs from Shadow Realms to come back as the new big bad.

It's so easy to make the joke that her character getting killed means they broke up lol
I def had an ugly cackle moment when I saw someone wondering who his next gf would be get met with the reply that she probably hasn't been born yet because it made me think of that SNL sketch.

I did kind of mind it because it seemed like a turn based on an emotional which the Kaylon had eschewed before, but I understand why they did it since the Union had burned all their ally bridges at that point and someone had to be on their side at this point.
Also my God, this season has been amazing. Everyone watch it when it hits D+ (even if you've already seen it!) and let them know there's interest in the show!! It deserves more seasons.
Man, that convo between Teleya and Ed at the end... 😭 I don't think Ed will let Teleya go. But part of me wonders if she'll break free like she did in 02.04, when Ed asked her how [she got out of prison] and she refused to answer.
I'm confused by something. Does Teleya care for Anaya or not? She refuses to acknowledge her and leaves her an orphan, but pays to keep her cared for and safe. She watched her (lovingly?) on the security monitor but then is ready to use her as a bargaining chip for her freedom, presumably knowing she'll have no control over her at all after that.
I'm so confused by Teleya's motivations here, and elsewhere honestly. I hope it's not because the writers don't know what they're doing... I just want some answers though.
If I'd been on my ereader, I would have been bookmarking the most egregious sentences because some were straight up purple prose.
It's such a quick read, though. I'm hoping I can steal a little time away later today to finish it. I think the first half would have been too heavy for an episode, the main character was reveling in his cruelty way too much.
eta: girl, omg, when he described himself as "genteel in demeanor" 😂
I am all out of ideas and I am all out of F's to give, so I just cut all of the Dolly Parton stuff out so that I could at least get something up. Sorry.
I'm listening to it now, thanks! I absolutely love them together too.
Here is one with Penny Johnson Jerald that I thought was adorable. I also really like the Quantum Drive: The Orville podcast. They have other cool interviews as well.
I had been worried with the Kaylon turning out to be the enemy in season 2 it would get too familiar, but re-antagonizing the Krill and expelling the Moclan from the Union, it was an interesting way to turn it all around.
It does feel a little easy, but it's interesting to see the shifting alliances and the way the layout of galactic politics changes.
The weapon plotline was a bit rushed, I think the episodic nature of the show is really harming the overall delivery in that sense, my complaint for several episodes has been the limited serialization of running stories.
IA the weapon was sort of rushed. In the subreddit they talked about how they didn't take it seriously at first because they thought that first battle was just a simulation. I thought the same thing. Maybe with more episodes that could have been more of a fleshed out storyline.
I actually shouted in shock when I saw the weapon work because it came off super hand of god in terms of problem solving, but I guess the overall real world allegory was the bigger story both here and for the whole of the season.
I watched B5 and DS9 as a kid so while I knew the real world allegories were there and kind of understood them, I guess I didn't really appreciate what those series were showing in creating their parallels because I was a bit too young, but with the Orville, it comes through a lot clearer possibly because I see and understand where its all coming from now.
