while i agree that $150k -> $30k "take home" as explained by TPH sounds really low, that's literally for 2.5 months of work on the generous/high end (Benjamin Button shot for 5 months, and I would assume TPH was actually on-set maybe 1 of those months in reality).
$15k-$30k per month, pure take-home profit, is actually an excellent wage in any industry.
i have a hard time feeling much sympathy for actors who get into that kind of contractor work, never develop literally any other skills, then complain about not being able to maintain the take-home they were making during the ""good"" years.
But they have to make it last, sometimes months if they're lucky but sometimes it'll be years before you get work again. YEARS and 30k can only go so far.
that's why i noted that they never develop literally any other skill
actors are the only contractors who expect to be allowed to sit around and wait until another acting job comes along, and should be paid for that privilege
like, shit, it's no secret that acting jobs can be hard to come by -- get a regular job in the meantime
I'm not sympathizing with actors that are over paid compared to essential workers who are still underpaid.
If these actors are complaining about the pay and they are still living in a nice home compared to me busting my ass to living in squalor never taking vacations then they must simply be living way above their means.
I don't have a retirement plan, health insurance, emergency fund savings.
