One source called the Justice League cut that Zack Snyder screened to studio heads in 2017 "unwatchable" and "joyless."

I'm watching the (I know) Campea video about this now - tbh I muted any iteration of ReleaseTheSnydeCut on Twitter so I missed alll of this, but it does not help Snyder's "nice man, shit movies" persona online.

I just can't believe that he got ALL that money and all this fanfare over a "movie" that a) is THAT long (like yeah, the Joss version was bad for many reasons and the longer cut gave way more depth to a lot of characters/storylines -- but it's four hours long!! Of course it's gonna be more thorough than a theatrical release!) and b) literally makes no sense without the existence of other movies that...aren't...going to happen. Like that ridiculous Mad Max flashforward thing with the Joker, and all the Martian Manhunter stuff. When will that be explained?? NEVER, probably. And the fanboys are fine with that?????

Marvel movies are convoluted and intertwined or whatever too (yes, they are paying me $$$$ to say this), but at least they plan ahead and know for sure that this certain stinger scene will actually pay off in something else they've already got in the works.

“ it's four hours long!! Of course it's gonna be more thorough than a theatrical release”

This is Snyder’s director’s cut but he already said would have been able to release a shorter theatrical cut as well. It’s not like this is what he would have released in theaters had Whedon done his thing.

But wouldnt whatever theatric version he realeased...also not make sense? He NEEDS that 4 hours to try and make sense out of a pile of mush

Right, this was his dream version or whatever, but I feel like a lot of the fanboys and even some critics approached it as "ahhh, THIS is the real deal, this is how it should've been all along! Wow, Cyborg gets so much screen time!" without allowing for the fact that the studio/movie theaters would not have tolerated the long-ass version. I remember hearing about some movie way back in the day, can't remember what it was, where the director was forced to cut a few more minutes just so they could have more showtimes in a given day at the theater. I still can't believe this reshoot version happened at all tbqh

are we still gonna pretend snyder isn't a lowkey cult leader lmao

like sure he's not AS bad as nexium or whatever other dangerous cult but he clearly has the chops for it given how much of a cult of personality around himself he's cultivated and arguably weaponized to get the ~~snyder cut~~ greenlit

and then there's the ray fisher of it all wherein he was obviously wronged and treated horribly by joss & co but also he seems HELLA difficult and unwilling to cooperate with anybody on relitigating that matter (going into detail about what happened on the record, refusing to comment on this specific story, etc) and he obviously knows he's never going to work with anybody in hollywood except snyder anymore so he's kind of forced to be snyder's ride or die or he just doesn't work

what a goddamn mess over bad superhero movies

Ray Fisher went through the investigation and cooperated. If you had the faintest idea of the way HR works, you'd know it's a losing battle, especially when it involves an entertainment conglomerate. His issues were: the way he had been treated (something that was confirmed by his co-stars WELL after the facts) and the president of DC Films trying to actively interfere with said investigation by throwing Joss Whedon (only) under the bus to protect Geoff Johns.

Is Ray Fisher's stance business-savvy? No. But it demonstrated integrity and courage in the face a PR machine trying to steamroll him. Hell, you're in this very post making excuses for a corporation and very close to calling Fisher "uppity."

I also remember Ray being in that Women of the Movement on ABC, last/this year?.

The optics of you calling someone who was treated like dirt by an abusive production team as difficult. Jesus some of you don't even hide it.

The number of ways that WB have managed to screw up their DC properties is really quite impressive. You couldn't plot a shit show as big as all of this.

I have no doubt that the Snyder cult was up to creating bots and threatening WB staff. I just hope that WB doesn't use all of that as an excuse to ignore all of the shit they pulled. IIRC, the guys Snyder apparently wanted gone were some of the guys involved in covering up the Joss Whedon abuse. I'm 99% certain that Geoff Johns was implicated in it all.

They're absolutely gonna use this to cover up the company's behaviors. It's easier to blame Synder and bots than to openly admit how toxic the department really is. And will remain since the comic side is just as bad.

Geoff Johns is absolutely behind it.

Ray Fisher named him several times.

He's the one who blocked the Green Lantern appearance and who's been pushing for his stories to be adapted.

He and Walter Hamada are the only ones left; Walter is the current president of DC Films until next year and could easily find another job, so he's not the one who has a vested interest to hold on by shitting on a movie released a year ago. Geoff Johns has been on thin ice for a while (Green Lantern x2, Krypton, DCEU) and needs to look better in comparison.

I was reading about this the other day and it honestly makes sense. I cannot imagine anyone being THAT excited about Zack Snyder's DC films of all things. There is nothing about those movies would seem to organically inspire such passion.
