For those of us who read the creepy incest series Flowers in the Attic by VC Andrews in middle school, Lifetime has finally made the fifth book in the series (the prequel Garden of Shadows) into a four part limited series. It tells the story of Olivia (mother of Corrine, grandmother of Cathy, Chris, Carrie, and Cory) and the creepy ass Foxworth ( Read more... )

I love that there are some fans of My Sweet Audrina voting in the poll because that was the VC Andrews book that creeped me out the most due to its over the top gothicness. Arden is THE WORST.

Lifetime deciding to change [Spoiler (click to open)]Garland having a stress induced heart attack to Malcolm strangling Garland was an interesting choice. I guess they're really leaning into having a soap opera level villain.

My Sweet Audrina was soooo fucked up!! I reread it every couple of years to remind myself of the outright batshitery of that book, lol. The teen creeps podcast about it was great too lol. Arden is so so evil and vile!!

I re-read it once every few years for the nostalgia factor and because every person in that book is so fucked up. I think Sylvia was the only character who wasn't completely delusional or in denial.

I hate Arden so much and for so many reasons. I pretend that the book ends when Audrina leaves. In my mind, she gets the hell out of Whitefern and never looks back.

I can't wait to watch this and then complain that I wasted my time watching it (and then repeat this cycle with the next adaptation)

This is my least favorite of the five Dollanganger books (mostly because it's too long for what actually happens), but I'm hoping that this mini series will be delightfully campy!

I'm torn between the OG Flowers in the Attic and the Heaven series. When I was in middle school in the 80s we passed around the paperbacks; as soon as one person finished reading it, it went to another person. We were properly scandalized but some stuff went over our heads (like the whole "Come, Catherine" thing). My Sweet Audrina was a hot mess all the way through though because everything was fucked up; the afternoon "tea time" where the sisters used as an excuse to say ugly shit to each other, the murderous autistic girl, people falling down stairs, nasty ass Vera, Arden's whack ass...the only person I feel bad for was Billie because she didn't deserve what happened to her.

For me, it's a threeway tie between the Flowers in the Attic series, My Sweet Audrina, and the Heaven series (even though Gates of Paradise is...not good). MSA had so much fuckery all in one book (bonus: no incest) so it gets points for packing so much into a single stand alone book.

Flowers in the Attic and Petals on the Wind were so addictive to my middle school self (If There Be Thorns was creepy but I didn't enjoy it as much as the first two books, and although I appreciated that Seeds of Yesterday wrapped everything up, I just did not enjoy a whole book about Bart being an asshole).

I felt bad for Billie too. Between the ice skating accident and being murdered, she was dealt a pretty awful hand.
