Every time an ONTD post about a religion-based scandal went up, I wanted to write about my own life as a prisoner of a parent who bought into this easily twisted doctrinal belief. I’m going to deep dive into this post when I feel a little better lol I find religion talk on ontd to be so interesting and I admire those who still have faith to acknowledge it on here, because I feel this comm can be very black and white when it comes to certain topics

I wish I still had faith in organized religion. I do believe that there's something up/out there, but I'm trying just to be a decent human instead and untangle years for fucked up thinking I was indoctrinated with.

This was a great read!

I remember the whole Jessica Hahn thing, and even though she posed for Playboy and those awful "No Excuses" jeans the majority of people I interacted with thought she was telling the truth and that both Bakkers were shady.

Thank you! No joke, we used to get those No Excuse jeans and wear them to youth group as a silent protest. Our parents were none the wiser---well, my DAD was because he actually paid attention and would smirk every time I did.

My mother was part of the class action lawsuit against PTL and GOT SOME OF MONEY BACK---and still blames Satan and unbelievers for the 'persecution' for people like Jim and Tammy, Jimmy Swaggart, Creflo Dollar, etc. etc. She still scooped out money for all of these fools and continues to do so.

Here in Germany you also have to pay 8 or 9 % (depending on your state) from your salary to the church. It gets automatically takes as long as your parents officially registered you as Christian as a child. I finally got my lazy ass up to officially leave the church last year and they charged me an additional 50 bucks to leave

You also have to declare when moving to Germany. I had to declare and I was "no." I may attend an occasional service if I need, but I'm not tax tithing. My daughter won't be registered either. Not sure how many people realize our holidays are very Christian tied, too. A good 70% are until mid/late June.

I had no idea the silver solution guy had such a long and rich history of scamming (but I'm not surprised).
