Every time an ONTD post about a religion-based scandal went up, I wanted to write about my own life as a prisoner of a parent who bought into this easily twisted doctrinal belief. i haven't commented but i have read ur others posts and u have nothing to apologize for, op! glad to know you've been able to escape from that and i hope you find peace in your journey as you recover from the trauma.

i grew up agnostic and, even though my parents are catholics, they've never been devoted so these details are new to me and not something i'd know about if it weren't for these posts. i only know of this family bc of the movie and jesus, their scam goes way way way deeper than the movie covered, i think. its understandable why tammy got off "easy" but i also believe she was in on it, at least on more than she lead on. trash behavior.

I watched that woman break out the tears as she walked up and down those studio aisle, begging for donations to keep their poor ministry afloat and doing the work of God knowing DAMNED WELL there was a million dollar antique piano sitting in the lobby of HER hotel that her ministry BOUGHT.

Thank you for taking the time to read and to comment. It's been so cathartic to spill my actual feelings about these fucking leeches on society. Part of me wants to have some kind of sympathy for Tammy but seeing those crocodile tears up-close and personal...nah.

I'm really sorry you had to go through all that, OP - that sounds infuriating. Is your mother still a fundamentalist/born-again Christian?

She is, sadly. She's no longer running after each and everyone of these fools like she did since she's now in the late 70s, but still listens to all of their drivel 24x7x365. Like, how other people have FauxNews on TV all day, she has these channels on. I've been very very VERY low contact with her since Jan of 2019, since her narc tendencies and abuse finally hit my break point. I text her on Christmas, Mothers' Day and her birthday, and she usually calls for Christmas though it is a cringefest as she answers the phone 'Happy Jesus Christ Birthday!' on Christmas.
