Somebody on Twitter compiled a list of every wild thing that happened on this show, and all I can say is that Glee was unhinged!!! and Ryan Murphy will pay for his sins!

i rewatched the show in 2020 and the amount of times i would send clips of insane moments to my friends with just the caption "ryan murphy must pay for his sins." like how did we, as a society, let him get away with this???!

i can't deal with the resurgence of this show with gen z and them saying that it's their unironically a good show and their "comfort show". no real fan of glee actually liked glee. if you were in the glee fandom in the years 2009 - 2011 then you hated this damn show and left by the time half the characters went to college. the "fans" of this show hated this more than anyone else ever could and we were all fighting for our damn lives on tumblr dot com. i'm tired of gen z erasing our struggles ( ... )

LOL it really is true that NOBODY hated this show more than the fans. I feel like people only actually liked the show for the first 13 episodes and then it was a full on hate watch, especially by season 3. It's frustrating because when the show was good, man it was fun tv but when it was bad, it was throw things at the tv bad. There was essentially no middle ground with it. And as you said, some of it is remarkably offensive and honestly, it's amazing because this show is just not that old yet good portions of it have truly already aged like milk.

that's exactly it. even when the show fell apart in that first back nine and then season 2, i kept watching because it could be so fun. again, the comedy has aged absolutely terribly now lmao, but it was always so sharp and on point and the songs were always a good time. but then when it became an after school special every episode the fun was sucked out and you're just left with horribly written characters and heavy handed PSAs shoved down your throat that weren't ever handled well. i think i gave up when finn outed santana and then the very next episode, she's needing to apologise for slapping him so she doesn't get suspended and he makes it up to her by singing an acoustic version of i kissed a girl???? just horrendously handled on so many levels good god.

I will die on a hill that Episode 7 of season 3 (I kissed a girl) is the episode that killed the show. It could never recover. I could never really fully get back into it after that. I continued to watch the show but that episode and its treatment of Santana was vile. I remember there was an extra week break too between when Santana slapped Finn and when the next episode happened so there was this big wait to see what was gonna happen and WOW did they handle it horrifically. The best was when Santana was like UPDATE Y'ALL, MY PARENTS ARE FINE WITH IT. Like....does anyone on this show know how to write AT ALL? So bad, SO BAD. Only Glee could have that fantastic rumour has it mashup and dramatic ending with that slap and then flop so hard the next episode.

Yeast-i-stat was and will always be iconic. I know it's easy to say now because she's gone but the parts of this show that are still enjoyable to me pretty much all have Naya involved in some way. Her songs have largely aged well, her performances are fun, her line delivery is still hilarious, and her dramatic performances still make me feel something (She was fabulous in scenes like when Santana tells Brittany she's in love with her aka "The Hurt Locker!"). For me, at the end of the day, even though the writing didn't say it, she was the true star of the show.

naya and santana were the main reason i became so obsessed with the show as a teenager. i remember sobbing the entire episode where santana realises she has real feelings for brittany and the hurt locker scene just broke me - somehow i didn't figure out that i wasn't straight for another few years after that lmao. she was the best vocalist, maybe only second to jane lynch in terms of comedy, and knocked all the dramatic scenes out of the park too. she was only ever meant to be a background character but she was just so goddamn good they couldn't ignore her and she ended up being one of the main 4 leads of the show, that's insane.

i'll always be furious that RIB treated her the way that they did and that she didn't get the career she deserved after the show. her death still breaks my heart whenever i think about it.

I couldn't possibly agree more. I too was completely dismantled by The Hurt Locker when I first saw it and was completely swept away by her performance (and was frankly pissed that she was NOT recognized for it in any real way like Chris was for his performance the year before). That character was definitely a part of my coming out process and the first LGBTQIA+ character I could actually relate to that I saw on tv and I feel like Naya really understood that reality while it was happening and was tuned into the importance of representation waaaaay before it was mainstream to get it. Naya truly deserved a fantastic career and it makes me so sad because there's clearly so much more talent that she never got to share and while Cory's death was incredibly sad, it's her death that gets me a bit emotional when I think about it, or see old clips of her on the show. She's the person on the show, in my opinion, that actually had to the potential break out and make a true name for herself. Even for Ryan and co, who loved to shit on the women of ( ... )

it always blows my mind when this new generation of fans talk about how the darren criss covers are always "so much better than the original". ryan's obsession with that man is a huge part of what tanked the damn show and the amount of goddamn warblers songs they had in s2 despite darren not even being a series regular at the time was insane. i also don't know how you could say he was the best vocalist on the show when naya rivera and amber riley were right there smh.
