the biggest scams i've pulled is to claim i have a migraine at work when in fact i needed to attend a class. How do these people not just.... die of stress and shame? or fear of being caught?

All of this is insane, but this:
Beyer’s friends sided with Finch as they felt Beyer’s mental state improved with Finch. Finch also hired Carly, Beyer’s trusted therapist who had now moved on to private practice, completing taking away Beyer’s support system. In order to keep her children, Beyer needed Carly’s reports stating she was stable so to keep her children, Beyer was advised to remain in her marriage to Finch. Beyer’s condition to stay was that Finch admit her lies to everyone.
is especially horrific. Finch is a monster.

How, in any interpretation of professional ethics or best practices, was it ok for her therapist, especially one who was so trusted and relied upon by her, to take on her friend/new girlfriend/wife as a client? And then, when a major conflict between the spouses arises, which would seemingly require her to chose one or the other, she chooses the newer, less bonded patient (who if she is in any way competent she must have suspected was guilty of the accusations, and suspected even before the accusations might be a liar, or more)? Did the therapist by that point have any kind of professional/creative relationship with Finch (like writing a script together or being connected by her to showrunners)?
